I've seen banded Greninja work pretty well, though I prefer Life Orb as there's no locking. Never heard of Scarfing, though. Do you have a replay?

And I can't help but see shiny Greninja as a male and the regular form as female now.

Sort of a reverse Infernape, with the shiny there being female and the other being male.
