Take off those nostalgia googles, sinnoh is a gigantic region that manages to be bigger than both of HGSS's regions.
Johto gameplay doesn't hold up today.

More like gigantic and utilized horrifically. There was all that space, all those awesome areas, and the whole fucking story took place in and on and around that fucking mountain. How many times did you have to cross that fucker? 6? Fuuuuck that. That ruined the entire region for me, which sucks, because I loved everything else about it, but I just can't replay those games because of that god damned mountain.

that said gen IV was very good for many other reasons and idealizing gen II is just as wrong, but not the remakes unless you're counting the horrible level scaling, in which case

I'll never understand people bitching about Mt. Coronet. Not only do you overstate by a lot the importance of it to the story, it's not even that bad.

Now, I'll give you that Sinnoh has a major issue with needing all kinds HMs all the time to walk around the map. You basically have to fly all the time, to everywhere you wanna go.

every pokemon game so far has been piss easy, I'm ok if you enjoy the characters for some reason or the story, which are also brain-damaged tier (inb4 gen V, it doesn't change anything especially with that final resolution) but if seen with the right mindset can be enjoyable

but don't come and tell me you're in for the main game, I'll maybe allow you to say the various battle frontiers/towers/maisons/whatevers are ok, maybe
