Gen 6 will be the last generation.
The various failures of X and Y were already bad enough to begin with and resulted in a lot of fan disappointment, but this Pokebank debacle, which does not show any signs of getting better, and which Nintendo are handling in the worst way are already pushing it over the edge. Combined with the general slow death of the video game industry in Japan, particularly Nintendo (nice new console you got there lel), will be the final nail in the coffin. Pokemon is already haemorrhaging its fanbase at an unprecedented speed because of all this - soon enough, they will be the equivalent of /mlp/, clinging onto a wasting franchise far past its prime and becoming ever more cringe-worthy as they do.
I personally don't mind if Pokemon ends here. Every franchise has to end some day, and GF have already shown us that they're running out of ideas and losing their game developer skills. It's about time this series was put to rest.
