Many years ago, I played Platinum up until Victory Road, quit, and forgot about Pokémon until mid-2013, when HeartGold drew me back in.
It's been a long time, and I had forgotten how Platinum could do this to me, and how I came to hate it so much. So, today, I decided to give it another chance, wiped my save, and started fresh.
Five hours and two badges in, I remembered: it's painfully generic and uninteresting in every regard, and makes me wonder why I even bother.
Be it the pace, Team Galactic, the music*, or anything else, Platinum feels like the lowest common denominator of Pokémon, stripped of any originality or charme.
The graphics are kinda ugly, the locations are uninviting, the music might as well not be there*, and why am I even playing this shit
Probably the only things that redeem it are Looker and the existence of some of its Pokémon additions.
Now I'm torn between pushing ahead at the risk of being drained of my passion for Pokémon so that the next game I'll be playing is gen VIII, or just throwing the towel and going back to Colosseum or something.
*There are some tracks from D/P/Pt which I only know from YouTube links, and which are undoubtedly among the best Pokémon has to offer, but I haven't actually encountered any of them in-game yet.
