Small update. Herakles met a sticky end at the hands of an unexpected Flamethrower. Amalthea the Xerneas seemed eager to join my cause, as she was caught in the first pokéball I threw, but being Legendary, I cannot allow her on my team, so she waits in the PC. Myrmidon the Durant joined me upon returning to Anistar and proceeding onto route 18, and Anansi the Ariados followed shortly after, in the Terminus Cave, bringing me up to a full team for the first time in a long time.

Rest in piece, Herakles. You will be missed.

In X&Y, rocks can be repeatedly broken for unlimited fossils. This allows for an infinite supply of Pokemon in a Nuzlocke. What do think about this, /vp/?

you usually consider the first fossil you find as the first mon in that cave (except when you already found a pokemon in that area) or the first fossil you revived to be the first pokemon encountered in the city you can revive it.

So only 1 pokemon, other fossiles may not be revived

original nuzlocke rules says "one pokemon per area"
reviving several pokemon, in their summary, it will appear the same area: where it was revived

and most people jst completly ignores fossiles

I've been having a question and nothing has written about this. I currently playing a nuzlocke of BB2 and I got up to Diftveil. I was given N's Zorua and that would count as my first encounter for the city. My question is: Are N's Pokémon allowed in nuzlocke? Technically they aren't yours and you can't nickname them but they do count as your first encounter. So, is there a rule regarding N's Pokémon in a nuzlocke or is it just up to personal perference ?

One more gym defeated!
I think I risked myself too much on this one, takezo killed espeon but not before being hit by a SE psychic. Fortunatelly I brought a -psychic berry with it, and it was just enought to tank, let geomano deal with Mr.Mime and took it down in 2 earthquakes as predicted, saving Mary to to alakazam, but got scared once Mime mimicked earthquake, fortunatelly it didnt use it and set up light screen instead.
For alakazam Mary was scarfed, and I aparently got a speed tie, where on the first turn it moved first but used reflect, and I hit it with a SE signal beam, dealing little damage because of the light screen Mime raised, on the second round Mary not only outsped alakazam but also got a crit, taking the rest of its health away and not needing a 3rd round.

will be more careful on future gyms

Continuing the run I started earlier this week, which has been pretty much just grinding. Hopefully I'll make it past May on Route 110 this time because that's the furthest I got (attempt #1) and this time I actually have a party.

So, starting my first Nuzlocke run, going through Y with no Exp. Share. Starter mon is a Fennekin (So I can get Zapdos for my pokedex, not going to use that on my run). His name is Bob, because I'm very original. (It'll start as a Nuzlocke because I want to restart, and then in endgame I'm going to continue completing 'ol dexter.

Going to do 1 "free encounter" in case of a encountering a pokemon I already have in a new area. Battles are in set style.

Welp, here's to Buttface and Bob.

Do most people who do Nuzlocke runs limit the number of times they use Pokemon Centers?

No. Grinding is kind of paramount to most Nuzlockes, so people tend to use the centers a lot.

There are people that limit item buying though.

They can. An accept clause is using each time to visit a town as a 'heal point'. For example, when you go to Viridian city in Kanto, you'd get one heal point. You can use it there, or somewhere else.

Some people also only allow themselves a heal when they get to town, and when they've beaten the town. Meaning you only get two heals per town at most.

Lastly there's the avoid all healing whenever possible, but, that becomes quite difficult, however, some people have done it.

Caught a Combee on Route 4, wondertraded it away. Got a level 60 Jigglypuff that looked awesome, but as it was way, way over my +5 level limit I had to retrade it, Same with a level 49 Smeargle.

Ended up with another breeder-rejectted Swinub. It looks pretty good to me though. I'm a bit worried about how good my luck has been with these wondertrades so far. I feel like it is going to come back to bite me in the ass later. The way my current team is my big weaknesses seem to be Ground, Rock, and Water...and the next gym is Rock IIRC. We'll see how it goes.

Yeah true. There are a few routes I'll be catching Pokemon in, as I'm only just getting through Route 4 now.

Still haven't decided what to do with Sycamore's gift Gen 1 starter though. I can either wondertrade it away for something to add to my team, or I could just perma-box it.

If I do Wondertrade it away, I'll probably picked Charizard and trade it to my main Pokemon X game first so I can get the Y Megastone, then just wondertrade whatever I traded over from Y.

Depending on the game, grinding could be downright necessary (Platinum). It's up to you to impose your own rules, you just asked if people limit their pokemon center visits, and most of the time, no, people don't do that.

But if you want to, go ahead. This is a self-imposed challenge after all, you decide the rules.

for straight-up vanilla Fire red? No, I don't think so. you could always go look to see what the rival's levels are and judge for yourself. I don't remember too well, but I don't remember needing to grind.

The SS Anne is pretty easy, especially since there's that one room where the girl will let you rest your Pokemon. I had more trouble with the Rival fight outside Cerulean than I did on the Anne.

Got the egg, beat my rival, and caught the first members of my team, a Sentret named Chris and a Spearow named Danny. I fucked up and crit'd a Pidgey on Route 30, but I don't care that much since Spearow > Pidgey. Now to grind up my team, but I can't play anymore today, so I'll have to leave it at that.

Thoughts I am having as I plan for my future nuzlocke

Do I consider pokemon obtained via game corner as towards that city's total
Do I factor in gift pokemon as well, such as Eevee or the Karate Dojo
Does the Dome/Helix fossil count as a Mt Moon pokemon or a Cinnabar Island pokemon

1- yes, if you didnt get any other pokemon in that city with fishing, surfing, grass, headbutting, gifted, etc
2 - normally yes, some people do no-gift mon clauses, but this is an exception
3 - your choice, but you probably wont reach mt moons fossiles without any wild encounter, so they wont be the 1st

Well things took a rough turn last night after I posted the first image.

Got through second gym in a snap, Frank and Kesha were MVP as water and ground types. But then everything took a dark turn.

Suddenly a double battle at foot of the cave before Shalour City, with a level 28 machoke and I think level 29 mr. mime at hand. nobody ever told me mr. mime's were crazy strong. He was OHKO'd poor Frank. When he didn't even have a negative nature towards special defense. I was shocked.

Machoke made quick work of poor Kesha. I overestimated poor little girl's defense. She fell to a single low sweep. Following my rules I reincarnated Frank, getting myself a Miltank. Molly grew to level 30 from 26 under my watch, but promptly died to... a wild Mr. Mime? I forgot. Mr. Mime's are on my list now, along with stupid Siglyphs. Frank's line ended with Molly's death.

Kesha's incarnate fared a bit better as a level 30 poliwag, which I promtply evolved next level and then evolved with a water stone I had on hand. Peter the Poliwrath was born.

I also recieved a Spinda through cave capture which I boxed, and a Foongus for route 12 capture, which I might stick with and train up to match the party. I mean I know I already have Risa who I plan to get a shiny stone for real soon, but I've never actually used a foongus unlike the others in my pc box, so I'm tempted. Double the poison can never hurt right?

Time of writing this it's time to learn some more of that mega evolution!

I also grabbed Shelia the Spirit tomb from the pc in order to have at least 5 in my party. She was from a route capture back when. More interested in how she fights than anything. Never used one before either. The typing should prove interesting though in the battles ahead.

To make things simpler, each pokemon counts under where the games say its caught. So in the case of the fossils I'd count it as a Cinnabar Island pokemon.

Managed to get through the HQ with no deaths! (Though Jet had to hang with 2 HP one time.)

Well considering that you can only get one gift/caught pokemon per route/town

The first fossil you end up waking up is the one you get stuck with (at least that's how it should be played)

I remember when I played my Y nuzlocke, I saved my awakening to get myself an Aerodactyl
it then proceeded to die the first time it battled a wild pokemon

I recently caught a Foongus and Ferroseed in BB2, which should I use on my team. Its weird how the rest of my team is unintentionally a sand team. I have Hippowdon, Pupitar, Crobat, and Vigoroth. I also had a Kabadra with Magic Guard, a Modest nature, and holding a Life Orb, which was doing great in the sand but sadly he died. Now, Ferroseed would be a good fit in my sand team but Regenerator on Foongus is useful in a nuzlocke. I have to fight Clay soon and I definetly using one of them, but which one?
I don't think setting up sand in a ground gym is that good of an idea but I might need to teach Hippowdon Ice Fang.

Traded away Professor Sycamore's gift, received a Level 1 Abra. Taught him Return to give him something to use. Now to try and grind him up without letting him get killed. Going to have to be careful.

I also caught a Bunnery on Route 5 and traded it away. Received a level 50 Japanese Ditto. It's past my level-cutoff point, but I'll probably hold onto it until I trade it to my copy of X and then wondertrade whatever junk I send over from X. Japanese Dittos are nice for breeding.

I did a nuzlocke before and I DID record deaths in the text file but it got deleted. I did lose the nuzlocke, though.
I was at Diantha, all of the mons in my party still alive (Blastoise level 60, Shiny Ampharos level 63, Furret level 30, Amoonguss level 49, Conkeldurr level 59, and Chatot level 25), but what happened after was a disaster. I went mega on Ampharos, thinking I could switch in with Blastoise to take care of Diantha's gardevoir, but first, I swept her whole team, and then switched on Blastoise who promptly got destroyed by Thunderbolt. It all went downhill after that. Amoonguss went out, didn't survive Psychic. Conkeldurr went out, didn't survive Moonblast, same thing with Furret, and Chatot got thunderbolted. Then my beloved shiny Ampharos went out last, still mega. Fuckin' Diantha and her mega gardevoir. ;_;

Got through Camphier town, going to get the Pokeflute now. My Abra evolved into a Kadabra, so I traded it to my X copy and then back to Y so I have an Allakhazam now.

Also received a Togepi for a Bunnelby I caught on Route 5. I boxed Gligar for a little while to train up Togepi, but even with her fancy egg moves and stats she was still pretty shitty. So now Gligar is back in my team, Togepi on Standby with Fennekin.

Gaia the original budew and lover of all was slain by the twins right before florama.
Jesus showed himself as the first catch on 202 as a lowly starly, after evolving in staravia and spreading the word of God across the pokeworld he was crucified, his death was too tragic to be documented.

Currently operation 2spooky. Grind up muhamed and keep him from evolving so he stays as a normal type, return to the lake near the start of the game and hopefully it's been 3 days so jesus can reincarnate in the body of a new starly.

I think it goes back to the first Gen
When Gyarados was close enough to be considered a dragon
They were trying to have Dragon Types be borderline legendary types, with Lance talking about "they may be hard to train, but they're the most powerful"
So yeah, slow growth but high payout

I mean gyarados takes as long as a legendary pokemon to level up
may as well get your money's worth for the effort

Progress of my new Wonderlocke so far.

I've been incredibly lucky with my wonder trades so far. A lot of very good breeding rejects. I'm having to hold my pokemon back just so that they won't get way too powerful, but they still manage to blaze through most opposition with little trouble.

I'm very bummed with the loss of Meditite though, she was such a good mon. Jolly Pure Power, and she came with Psycho Cut, Drain Punch and Bullet Punch. But she sadly wasn't quite strong enough to tank an unexpected Aerial Ace. May you find peace in the afterlife, Meditite.

and if I remember right, trade pokemon lose their nicknames if they evolve

Yeah, I know. That's what kept me from doing a Wonderlocke up until now. But I wanted more variety than a regular Nuzlocke grants, and I've sadly gotten spoiled by the gorgeous 3D models of X/Y, so I don't really want to go back to one of the earlier gens to do a randomizer nuzlocke.

Oh, and I don't think that traded mons lose their nicknames. I got No. 72 as an Eevee, and the nickname stayed when he evolved.

but then again the name was in japanese, so who knows maybe when it evolves it's forced to be in english and thus loses any japanese name (nickname or otherwise)

First encounter in Diglett Cave? DUGTRIO
None of my pokemon were high enough level. The ALL get wiped out.

Instead of starting over, I continued with the lvl10 Beedrill I had in the box
and just grinded the lil bug while I slowly waiting for my magikarp in the daycare to be usable

Then I ended up losing the Beedrill in the ghost tower
and I was like "fuckit, there is nothing alive that I care about anymore"

My team is pretty solid at the moment, no casualties yet. just made it to Route 6, so a new catch will come soon. Abird is my current star of the team after taking Viola down alone.

The missed catches are obvious, I just didnt think those pokemon were worth my time so i just ran from them.

I have a good feeling about this team. Well, except maybe Floette, she's really weak at the moment. Fairy wind doesn't do shit unless it's SE, and even then most things still live it. Anyone know when Floette stops being semi-dead weight? I got an eviolite for her, but I dunno how long that'll help. what's the reccomended level to evolve Floette, also? I know I'm coming up on a shiny stone soon, curious to know the best level to evolve at.

Fighter monotype here, I'm finally getting around to dealing with team flare in the power plant and all those motherfuckers have Golbats which are wrecking face on speed and damage for everyone but Hawlucha. Meditite evolved in the middle of it and continues to disappoint on the special attacking side. Scraggy and Hawlucha remain team-carries.

Heh, well, guess I greatly underestimated how much I leveled.

Grinding is always good in a Nuzlocke to ensure that as few of your buddies die as possible, but I surprised myself, I guess. Korrina, Calem and Ramos were a breeze. Still, there's the rest of the Power Plant to get through, Clemont after that and Calem again after that. Anything can happen.

Mienfoo creeps closer to Mienshao battle by battle, and if she lasts that long, I will most certainly be pleased.

The latter will have a consequence in the IRL piece of challenge keeping it simple, each pokémon has a Pump it Up song assigned to it, and I have to play said songs after each checkpoint, song level based on pokémon level. Harder song level = harder to get A grade, and if I fail, the pokémon dies so overgrinding is not an option.

Thoughts?

The difference between the older version (the one in the beginning of this thread) and the newer version is that the newer version has three areas for graveyard, box and rules, as well as premade layers for shadows under the boxed pokémon. I don't have access to Photoshop at the moment, but I'll get an updated clean template as soon as I can.

I'll see if I can figure out a good way to embed the different move colors in the PSD (right now I have them as layer styles that I switch between, that are saved on my computer), but if I can't, it's really simple to do. The layer styles of the move background layers contain a Gradient Overlay, and you can just set the rightmost color of the gradient to the color of the move's type.

The obvious implication being that normal Pokémon, even those used by the evil team, know how to hold back, but Shadow Pokémon go for the kill and the door to their heart entirely closes if they're defeated in combat.

What settings are you using? My attacks don't lag at all, and once i stopped using Dolphin's default config the music stopped looping. The only problem is that occasionally the last character in a text box glitches up. Putting the Texture Cache slider all the way to "Safe" fixes it, but also slows down the game to about 95% in heavy lag areas. Pic is my new settings, the one with Poochyena was with the default ones.

The only attack glitch I see is Ember occasionally has boxes around the fire, that can be fixed by enabling Force Texture Filtering as you did, but I really don't like how it makes the boxes around the menu textures visible as in your picture. Also, Harden and Mirror Coat are the only attacks I've seen so far that lag the game, the reflection effect seems to be pretty powerful. I'm only using a GTX 560 though, with the OpenGL backend.

Get Zubat and Quil to 13 and you should be sweet, if you need to use Eevee, make sure it doesn't level over 13 as then you're stuck without a STAB move for Falkner.

I just did. I knew u turn couldn't kill wobbuffet and I had forgotten how dbond worked pre gen 5 so I went for the wing attack, critted wobbuffet and it took golbat down with it.

Grinded a bit then got through Rock Tunnel without any real incident. Skipped straight through a bunch of areas to round up some encounters and such, which is where Soda and Chili came from.
Cheese has been a bro but I needed some more type diversity on my team so he's been boxed, for now at least. After grabbing some encounters I went back to Lavendar to challenge Rival Fuckwad.

Not too hard until fucking Charmeleon came out. You would not believe the fucking Smokescreen hax it caused against Truffle. Magnitude missed 8 times and hit 2 times... at 4 and 5 power. I was able to get it to half but got to my item limit, so I had to switch to Wings.
Ember critted and killed him. Wings was my first real encounter of the game. He shall be missed. Jawbreaker went in and took Charmeleon down.

So we get two unexpected new teammates; Chili and Soda. Soda will probably be Water Stoned next time I play. Chili needs some serious grinding before I get much further anywhere else.

So, I beat Valerie again without deaths. Team is Ludicolo, [Mega] Gengar, [Mega X] Charizard, Espeon, Heracross, and Hippowdon.

Pokéball factory time.

Gengar was my starter, Hippowdon was caught on Route 8, Heracross in Cyllage, Charizard sometime before Korrina, Ludicolo just after I got Surf, and I don't know about Espeon.

Well, I finished my Y nuzlocke which I didn't document here.
Think I'm going to head back to White/White 2 next.

I think I'll be using a level cap (highest level of next gym leader), but are there other rules I should use?
Also who should be my starter? I tried to use Snivy last time but for whatever reason I had a rough time...

I dislike running DS emulators, I play on carts.
I've actually tried running Volt White before a bit, was pretty good. But yes, I'm running carts.

And I normally run with Oshawott, I've been trying to use Snivy because I liked the design. Haha. I don't like Tepig too much, but I think I'd grow to like it.

Fire red is baby tier because of vs seeker grinding so go ahead. Then move onto X/Y, emerald, HGSS/SS, Platinum/Flawless Platinum, Volt White and Blaze Black and finally Volt White and Blaze Black 2

I don't have a flash cart. I'm looking for something I can play today, or soon. But I'll keep it in mind if I have extra cash sometime to order one.

I also have no problem playing unmodified games. But yes, in the time I tried a Volt White Nuzlocke it was extremely painful and I'd rather work on the materials for that later or something. Just trying to think of rules for a normal White and White 2 run, but I do plan to give White 2 Challenge mode thanks to having beat Black 2/having my old DS around.

Pretty much. They're fun for extreme challenge, but I like the normal games too.
Also, SS Nuzlocke was fun, but took ages by the end grind wise. Red was definitely a great climax to that run~
