>>18384461The Sinnoh games are pretty much the pinnacle of that "same"ness but Platinum is still one of the best games in the series, and it's also definitely the most difficult (but that's not saying much).
Black and White deviate the most from the standard formula and definitely offers the most unique playing experience in the series, mainly because you can only find Unova Pokémon until the post-game.
Black and White 2 are the first "third version" games to be significantly different than the original, with a whole new plot, expanded region, and new characters, as well as a massive selection of Pokémon. It offers probably the most complete experience of the series.
X and Y are more generic at the core compared to the Generation V games, but they don't take themselves as seriously as the Generation IV games either. They're probably the easiest games in the series but there's a whole bunch of new and interesting things they bring. They're worth buying, but if you're more looking to get back into Pokémon in general I'd recommend picking from Platinum or BW2 first and waiting for XY's third version to come out and flesh the game out more.
