Depends on what the defence stat is, if its lower than say 20 than your shiny is trash

Yeah, most likely. The only two other eeveelutions that aren't hurt too much by a calm nature are flareon and leafeon, and there are much better natures you could run for both of them. I'd say go with umbreon on this one.
