I stopped right before Gen 3 in middle school, but I played covertly once I found out a friend played. Later realized everyone played Pokemon in middle school but was too embarrassed to do fun multiplayer stuff.
Got to HS and basically dropped gameboy games, but again picked up Pokemon covertly on vacations etc(still Gen 3)
Now I'm college aged and I guess it's like ironically cool to play Pokemon again or some shit.
I might get lynched for saying this, but I honestly think we can thank Tumblr for making it socially acceptable.
Tumblr made hot trendy girls think Pokemon is cool b/c it's easy enough for them to play and they get their quirky bitch cred.
Girls used to think you were a fucking weeeeeirdo if you were over 12 and playing Pokemon. So glad that's over(with the exception of girls who don't spend all day on the internet)
