Aaand we have our first casualty. Bazooka bit of a bit more than he could chew and fell to a critical Wing Attack from a Team Flare Golbat. Irony, it would seem, has a sense of humor, as he was reincarnated into a Zubat, and a pretty decent one at that, by the looks of it.

So for me, I'm currently only doing my first Nuzlocke, in pokemon Y, so I can't really answer it.

I kinda wanna get a HG/SS run but I can't be arsed to get it because of the incompability with gen VI without having B/W or B2/W2

Yeah, as I progressed I felt that having 10 reincarnations would be just way too easy. With 5 (including the original), there is a more present fear of losing a pokémon.

Makes sense. I was thinking earlier you could almost count evolutions as reincarnations if you wanted to increase the difficulty, but that was based on the original 10 reincarnation limit.

what do you do if you wipe halfway through the game? i don't wanna play the first half of the game again, especially considering it'll likely be a very similar team and the only difference will be more grinding since i now know the strength of my opponent. should i just keep the old team, grind them more and continue? i'd mark 1 loss for the run or something and keep a tally.

OR

do you think it's worth it to restart?

a) Carry on as if nothing happened
b) Restart and grind like hell
c) Catch new Pokemon from the routes/places around you as if it were the first time and set those as your new team

I'd probably go with a) because I'm lazy but c) might be good

Diamond, I have a Ponyta, Machop, Bibarel, and Unown D. They're all really underleveled and, if I'd rather use Pokemon from this game since I've used Ponyta and Machop before. Maybe I'll just train up the Bibarel and catch a new team as I go lol

I put a folder called "LAYERSTYLES_MOVECOLORS" in the PSD file. The layers in that folder are named according to the move type and have the appropriate layer style on them. So it's as easy as right click > Copy Layer Style on the layer whose style you want, and then right click > Paste Layer Style on the correct layer in the Pictures/Mon [number]/Move BGs folder.

Progress update. Zubat didn't last very long, due to me underestimating the massive power of Hariyama while training him. And so, Pikachu was reborn from Zubat's ashes. Not taking any chances with Hariyama from now on.

Behold, my smorgasboard of fonts for personality's sake.

Had a good start, at least, but the first losses have hit - lost my Vivillon and Helioptile while training. Amaura and Cubone have taken their place, and Eevee, so named because despite me already having an Ice-type, I'm gonna see if he can live long enough to get to the Frost Cavern , is both my newest catch and newest team member. Just grinding at the moment. Drifloon is definitely a consideration for Korrina, and I may well bring Ivysaur back. Not much in the way of Water options...either Bibarel or Luvdisc, really.

Getting Nincada up three more levels to obtain both Ninjask and Shedinja is also enticing.

Took down Archer at Safari no trouble, had a near miss with someone in the battle nearly getting a Thunder Fang off on Berzerk but it missed and he KO'd it next turn.

Caught a Magnemite from the safari but boxing it until I need it. Grinded team up to 40 and heading in to take Jasmine on for the Mineral badge.

first: Platinum (what a way to start off!)
favorite: Platinum, Gen 4 is probably my all around favorite gen in general. Hoenn and HH/SS are fine too, though the level grinding in both is horrendous

Man, I've made it to Celadon City but I'm just so tired of the slow ass grind for some of my lower level Pokemon. This is the third time I've felt tempted to just abandon my FireRed run. Beat down Jasmine no sweat, Babar was MVP with that Earthquake tearing her team to shreds.

Caught my next batch of mons and headed to the Rocket Hideout in Mahogany and battled the first few trainers when one of their Raticates managed to get a Crit Double Edge on Busta the Jolteon and took him out. RIP.

Have replaced him with Blux the Magnemite and heading back in to train him up to scratch.

Well I was feeling impatient and just went straight to Erica. I beat her, but suffered a number of loses due to be underlevelled and horrible weak to grass and sleep powder My current available Pokemon are now Gloom, Pidgeotto, low level Sparrow, Level 5 Magikarp, low level Drowzee.

I've lost my Wartortle and Growlithe - my two favorite team members - and a bit of my will to continue. I might just chalk this one up as a loss due to my own impatience and foolhardiness...

Thinking of trying out that Reincarnation challenge DexBased came up with, help give him some more feedback. Either that or move on to HeartGold - possibly SacredGold - but not sure yet. Can't decide what to do.

I'll continue, but I've no confidence in this team. Also I still need to play something alongside it otherwise I'll just get burnt out. The exp grind in FireRed seems worse than I remember in any of the other games except the original Red.

Well with Erika down, you can buy a grass stone easily to get a Vileplume. Sparrow might be redundant but you really need every man you can get. You can also head to the fighting gym in Saffron to get Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan (I recommend the former since it's Gen 3). Aside from that Drowzee is a fantastic defensive Pokemon. Don't think of it as a sweeper, it's meant to take special hits like a boss. If you can get it to a Hypno you shouldn't have any problems with the fighting Gym due to natural resistance. Aside from that, try to get a Snorlax asap from this point. Gio should be fairly easy with a Vileplume.

After my disastrous attempt at Nuzlocking Emerald a few weeks ago, which ended ignominiously after Brawly's Makuhita bulked up faster than I could kill, then swept my team like it was his job, I've taken a break to MM a bit, prepare for the monotype tournament. You know, stuff.

But now I'm not doing anything in particular, so lets get a nuzlocke started. I'm thinking about trying Sacred Gold. Never played it before, heard good things.

I've never successfully Nuzlocked HGSS with Chikorita before, mainly because I never pick it. Lets remedy that.

Rules:

>Only catch the first Pokemon of the Area
>Pokemon faints, its dead
>Dupes Clause: Can't capture a Pokemon I already have registered in the Pokedex. Still counts as my first encounter.
>Nickname Everything
>Battle Style is Set
>Only Held Items can be used in battle.

The Nosepass in Pewter City are very, very helpful for training up Lauren, but I got cocky and decided to take on Brock. His updated team and their moveset ripped me a new one, especially Kabuto with Rock Tomb, Absorb and Mud Shot to kill Benji and Lauren, the only two in my team who have anything super-effective against rock types.
On the plus side, Juliet evolved into Beedrill and might be useful if I can get through Brock intact.

So a lot of shit happened. Pikachu fell to a Shadow Tag Wobbuffet while I was leveling her up, and later, a Battle Girl's Hawlucha swept everyone but Trinity. The fallen heroes were reincarnated as an Eevee, a Larvesta, a Chimchar, a Bunnelby and a Flabébé, all breeder rejects but the Bunnelby. Larvesta was taken out by a cheeky Dugtrio and his Magnitude while grinding, and was reborn as an new Fletchling, holding true to the original Fletchling's name of Phoenix.

I'm currently at Clemont's gym, careful not to lose Diggersby since she is the last reincarnation of Bazooka the Wartortle.

An update on my FireRed, which ended in utter disaster last night. Went to bed before I wrote it all down, don't think I forgot anything.

Drowzee was taken out by a Haunter because I thought Psychic was strong against Ghost (it's been awhile since I played any Pokemon before XY came out). Lost Eevee to a Koffing in Lavender's Pokemon Tower. That same Koffing self-destructed, taking out my Gloom. This is probably the most devastating loss I had taken so far, as Gloom was a fucking power house. I had switched to him specifically to sleep the Koffing so he wouldn't self-destruct. Sadly, I acted too late.

After Pokemon Tower I headed south, Magikarp was lost to a Trainer's electrode while trying to level up on the way to Fuchia City. Sparrow and Pidgeotto were all I had left, one was taken out by trainer's 29 Pikachu, the other by that Trainer's Raichu before I could reach Fuchia City. Caught a Bellsprout and Weepinbell along the way to Fuchsia City. Weepingbell was killed during training. Venonant was doing okay. Caught a Tauros as my Pokemon from Safari Zone.

So I managed to train up my Tauros and Venomoth to around level 35, thinking that would be good for Koga's gym. Forgot Venomoth was weak to Psychic, he was chain-slept into oblivion. Tauros (who I had nicknamed Thirty) actually did really well for the most part. He was level 39 by the time I somehow managed to reach Koga. Was feeling nervous yet confident. Sadly the amount of poison-slinging Koga was doing was too much for me to keep up with antidotes. Thirty took out 2 Koffing before falling.

It had started to look better, but sadly it was not to be. Still had fun, and I'll probably retry again soon. I made a lot of stupid decisions, largely due to my faulty memory of some of the type-weaknesses. Before XY came out I hadn't touched Pokemon in years, so I'm still re-learning a lot of shit. I think I might attempt HeartGold next before retrying FireRed (or doing Yellow instead), just because I haven't touched Gold/Silver in like 10 years.

Let me tell you a story, if you please. A story of a two defeated warriors, both felled too soon.

The first, Bolora the Geodude. He was the first Pokemon to join up with the team, a tough fellow with a solid defensive strategy; take the resisted hits for days on end, wear 'em down with Tackle.

He was also the first to fall. Testing out an old Fishing Rod in the waters of Cherrygrove City, a Krabby was reeled in. A foe the team was not ready to face. The Krabby's Vice Grips were too powerful for Sage to absorb, and her Razor Leaf barely scratched the bulky crab. For Bolora, the only choice was to stand between the water pokemon and its weaker friends.

A Bubblebeam turned this risky call into a Matyrdom. All that saved the team was a last ditch Pokeball, thrown while the Krabby was at all but full health.

Mr Snips was the team's backbone, the power that almost ended the run prematurely coming in handy against many trainers. Snips' vice-like claws were the end of many wild and trained pokemon, including those who would've otherwise joined the team.

It seemed that the powerful crab was satisfied with the allies that we already possessed, and did not desire any more.

But alas, his strength was not enough. Climbing the sprout tower, it fell on Snips to fend off a Hoothoot that was rampaging through the team. For the first, and last, time, Snips failed. An Air Cutter, twice as powerful as a normal attack, sliced the mighty Krabby in two, ending his life.

Neither of them deserved to die, but both went out swinging.

I also got wiped by the Elder when I fought him. Then my hack froze on the white out screen, so I ended up reloading my save state from after Snips' death. Since I'm enjoying myself, I decided to take it as a sign that the Nuzlocke Gods wanted to give me another shot. The second attempt I took a different approach, and defeated the elder without any losses

Anyway, its 4am here, and I really need to go to sleep. Night y'all.

Currently at Clemont's gym. Kinda annoyed that I STILL haven't got a replacement for that Luvdisc yet. Where the fuck did all the froakies go? It used to be impossible to WT without getting at least one of those frogs, and now I actually want one, they've vanished. Also thinking about replacing Noibat. It's been dragon behind a lot, Air Cutter doesn't do much damage even when it's SE, and now I have Charizard, it's kinda redundant.

I infeltrated the "S.S Anne" and defeated that enemy red on board. I also found a T.M for dig,One that Lee could use in the fight against surge. I also got my hands on two great balls, which I then used to catch Z (Who didn't accept our ranking processes and is now classified as "madame" and Bella, Who uses her array of chemicals and powders to obliterate her enemy. Outside of war they would all be illegal, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
Our troops are beginning to move out now. So wish us luck!

I present to you a new way to do Pokemon runs, The Gamblocke!

The rules are as follows
-When you encounter a pokemon in a new route, you must flip a coin
Heads= You can catch it
Tails= You must defeat it
This cycle coontinues until you catch a pokemon in that route.

-When you catch a pokemon you must flip a coin.
Heads= keep your last caught pokemon *the one you caught before this one*
Tails= You release it, as per nuzlocke you can only catch one pokemon per route

-During battle against trainers/gym leaders, when you want to use an attack you must flip a coin,
Heads= you can use it that turn
Tails= it is disabled that turn and must use another attack *The coin flip must be performed for first attack only*

Similar effects apply for switching pokemon.Heads= Switch out with that pokemon, Tails = Must switch out with another.

-When a pokemon faints in battle,
Heads= It lives
Tails=The pokemon must be released.

You may extend these rules by applying it to items, pokemon centers, whatever your imagination can come up with.

Your success hinges on your luck.. are you willing to take the gamble?

I was thinking of doing an Ash run. Start with Yellow, then when/if I beat it transfer all the Pokemon to Gold and continue along that way. Only catching/releasing/evolving Pokemon Ash does in the show. And just work my way all the way up through XY.

Yeah, the in-game key command won't bring it up. It's defaulted as ENTER, but I've changed it to other keys like SPACEBAR and something like Y. It just won't come up.

Which results in the eventual inability to use HMs/TMs/items outside of battle. Quite problematic.

Is there some trick to get HeartGold to work on DS emulators?

I just beat Falkner earlier, but now whenever I load either my regular save or my quicksave all I get is blackscreens. Essentially have to restart, but don't see a point in doing so on an emulator if it's just going to fuck up again.

Going to have to stick the DS games on my flashcart and dig out my old DS Lite.

I managed to beat Bugsy after some preparation which included having to switch out my Rattata for Geodude. Worked out really well, knocked out Scyther in one hit with Rock Throw.

What emulator are you playing on? If it's no$gba, you will have to play in GBA BIOS mode and decrypt the ROM. Use no$zoomer too. Yes, it's annoying to do initially but it makes the game run as smooth as butter.

Did a load of grinding, but that fight with Archie in the volcano was horrible. Crunch and two Super Potions nearly killed SPLASH and Spiky.

Pulled out Wonder, nearly died to Crunch again but managed to kill the blasted thing before scaring me with the harmed by spiky skin bit.

Managed to get to Lavaridge Town without any encounters. Kakyoin is pretty useless and would have died instantly.

And the next gym is fire-type. Should go smoothly.

Too tired to continue through Sprout Tower tonight, but a little update since updates keep me motivated to continue challenges.

HeartGold Nuzlocke is going pretty smooth so far. Lost Turn-X the Caterpie to a Zubat I couldn't escape from while training everyone up. Was lucky enough to bump into a Gastly in Sprout tower, took 3 Pokeballs because I didn't have any non-Normal attacks to bring his health down. Honestly surprised I got him in just 3. The downside is he's been a bit of a pain to bring up to level, since everything in the area seems to be Normal types mostly.

Not super concerned about Falkner, I don't have anything that is particularly weak to Flying, but I don't have a ton of things that are type-strong against it. First I need to get through Sprout Tower though, so we'll see how things go tomorrow.

Got a second wind, went to boot it up, save is somehow corrupted. Fuck me. At least I wasn't too far in, but it still sucks. I think with all the trouble I'm having with it, I'd be better off just playing on my R4 instead of emulating.

Not sure if I want to restart HG, or do a blind Gen 3 run, or try FireRed again. Alternatively do FireRed Omega for some added challenge.

Anyone wanna give a suggestion about this little guy, I just looked at Leafeon and didn't see anything really pleased me since it learns 3 special attacking grass moves with a base special of 60. I don't really want the Adamant nature to go to waste. I might just box him for the moment and go back to using my kricketune, or start getting up that Onix up so I can evolve it to a Steelix later. I'll take any suggestions you guys got.

If your computer is pretty bad No$GBA is a solid option for it. Also if you haven't with Desmume turn on JIT in the emulation option's menu. You can find out how in the pastebin above. Also for another run, if you're going to do Gen 3 again try FRO, it's a pretty fun hack, but it'll be bit more difficult than your standard FR.

Apparenlt you can get a Ralts in Viridian City, that was a pleasant surprise. I almost missed that the cut-able tree was removed.

You can hack one in, or use your starter till you find the type in question. Some types are just not recommended though, I.E. Dragon in Generation 1.

These last few routes on my Platinum nuzlocke have been extremely discouraging, the only thing I got going for me is a Porygon 2 at the moment. It feels like I'm just falling behind hard.

Alright, it's been a few days since I've had the chance to work on the Wonderlocke, but I've made some progress. Now at Ambrette town with no deaths yet and a fairly promising team lineup. I only wish I might have gotten some more physical attackers to balance things out, but what'll ya do. At the least I have that Sandile in the PC as a 'backup mon'. Might train him up in levels a bit and box Sylveon in the meantime.

She spammed double team six fucking times. Fucking double team SIX times, got SIX special defense drops, and critical hit with a blizzard. I don't know if the critical mattered in killing my bird, the only person who had a 100% accuracy move, but I'm fucking pissed.
