The revival process was imperfect, leaving traces of the rock the dna was extracted from.
This taint on its genetic code made it mutate into a part rock type, most likely over-writing another typing.
That's why kabutops is not bug/water, or aurorus ice/electric

Not really seeing the steel, despite the mention of hard plates. I think that's just plain insect chitin, not steely plates like those of Bastiodon.

Really? That's kind of lame. I don't like the idea that the revived Fossil pokemon are radically different from what they were like in their original eras. I always thought they were all part Rock type because Rock was the primordial Pokemon type so EVERY Pokemon was Rock Type until whatever mass extinction wiped the Prehistoric Pokemon out led to other types developing or becoming more dominate.
