According to the IV Checker, my two Cleffas are both 31/x/31/31/31/31, but one is "Somewhat Vain", and the other is "Capable of taking hits".
What's causing that? Which should I train?

Capable of taking hits shows what a bitch and what a pushover it is. If the other is Likes to thrash about, fuck them both. You want powerful pokemon but not autistic as well.

When there's multiple 31 IV stats, it is random what the phrase on the Pokemon status page will take the stat from.

NOW, I'm not entirely sure about this. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The descriptors tell which IV is highest. There's different ones for different ranges and in the case of equal high IVs it picks a descriptor at random from those applicable

Either or, mate. Ideally, you'd want the one with the lowest Attack IV, just to fuck Foul Play users up that extra notch.
