>>18445890The pokéball seems designed to catch anything BUT humans and already caught pokémon, rather than to specifically catch pokémon only. Compare the anime where it's caught stuff like inanimate rocks and rice b- jelly donuts. In the games as well everything you pick up from the ground seems to be contained in a pokéball-like structure first. And in a society where matter can safely be converted into data and back it seems likely that portable converters/storage would widely be in use.
And don't put any stock into pokédexes. Even if it's index isn't designed by ten year-olds that part is still manmade. They could put whatever they want in the index, who's to say it's correct.
