How does a shiny have worth if you are able to manipulate your chances of getting one? They seem worthless outside of Gen 2/3.

Value doesn't just involve "what you can trade it for"
If just having it gives you the warm fuzzies because you like the alternate color that much, or just how much time it took to get it, then it's worth it to you
if that's not enough for you, then there's no problem with that- you just have a different way of valuing these things

I didn't mean value for trades, I meant as something to marvel at.

It's not going to feel the same way to encounter one when you know the odds are much higher.

nothing in this world has actual value, only the value you choose to put on it. a shiny might not be valuable to you, but it can be incredibly valuable to someone else.

Even with the higher odds, it doesn't guarantee you're gonna find a shiny
Some people in the /shw/ threads have been going on 1000+ eggs for one shiny
I personally know a guy who got XY when it was released and he hasn't seen a SINGLE shiny
I still consider finding a shiny a pretty magical encounter, because you honestly never know when it's gonna happen

I have 600 hours in gameplay and I have only seen one shiny it was a Togepi that I had been MMing. Got in the 400th egg.

Haven't seen one in the wild or by a random egg.

I get that, but that's not really enough to be worth spending hours or days on end trying to hatch one, just for the color. There's many cases in which the shiny looks actually better than the default (negro Rayquaza and cantaloupe Swoobat are the tits), but, at least to me, it just doesn't seem worth so much effort. I don't get why people bitch so much about genning.
