What's your method for naming Pokemon?

All of mine are named after food. I've got too many to list, but right now I have a Tyrunt named Jawbreaker, a Growlithe named Bulgogi, a Granbull named Truffle, and a Houndour named Kishka (a type of blood sausage)

I have a full Bug team as well with neat nicknames, but it'd take forever to list them and I don't think anyone cares.

I did it a lot in gen III and IV and after some time the name loses the appeal and I wish I could remove it.
Which I obviously can't because they have been transferred already.

What could make me nickname again is if they allowed other people but OT to change it.

That would be nice.I guess they see it as, the name obviously meant something to the trainer and in the Pokemon world it's a taboo to change the name of someone else's Pokemon.

I look at my vidya colection and randomly select one of the titles i see there. Some of my pokémans are Katamari, Metal Gear and Fallout NV (the title doesn't match the pokemon's appareance at all).

I do nicknames sometimes, but either everything gets a nickname or nothing does. As a geology major, I when I do nickname, most of my nicknaming themes off of minerals. My current Platinum nuzlocke team is:
Malachite the Torterra
Plagioclas(e) the Staraptor
Cinnabar the Magmar
Hematite the Magnezone
Tourmaline the Glaceon
and Dolomite the Gyarados

I usually name my Pokémon in a playthrough/my team after a certain theme; what theme that is tends to be random.
When I first played Platinum I named them after various unrelated mythological creatures (Gyarados = Leviathan, Scyther = Peri, Onxy = Veles, Roselia = Urd, etc.).
In HeartGold I named my Cyndaquil KADYROV because I was amused by Ramzan Kadyrov's antics on Instagram at the time. Building on that, I then named the rest of my team after various appropriate Chechen historical figures (Vaporeon = SUBARAYEV, Bellsproud = CHERMOYEV, Graveler = SHAMIL, etc.).
And when I played through White a few weeks ago, everyome bore the names of Chinese historical figures. (Zebstrika = Yuan Shizu, the Chinese name of Kublai Khan; Lilligant = Wu Xetian, Samurott = Zheng He, etc.)

At other times, though, I name my Pokémon after whatever suits them best. I had a Weezing called ZYKLON-B in White 2, and raised a Starmie for competitive play named VAUBAN, for example. My female Bisharp in Y was obviously named JEANNE; in that same playthrough I also had a Nidoking named NIDOKAISER.

There usually is not rhyme or reason to my nicknaming. Sometimes its based off the pokemons color, sometimes food, sometimes based after characters from something, sometimes its something I think fit the pokemon, and sometimes its something else entriely.
Examples include:
Alakazam is named SpoonBender
Shiny Gyarados is named CherryPie (because colors)
non-shiny Gyarados is DevilSprings
Dragonite is named Gingerbread
Ditto is named Proxy
Golurk is XLR
Mega Garchomp is Knifehead
Scrafty is Cromatie
Tododile is Gustave
Pinsir is Shrapnel
Heracross is Bombshell
Shiny Golem is called Fools Gold

I did have some fun when I was playing Soul Silver the first time and named all my mons with musical names: Jazz, Solo, Cantata, Aria, Forte, Mezzo...

Typically I just stick with the classy-sounding names though because I simply prefer them and it's much less work than digging for some mythological being you can name them after that isn't too stereotypical (i.e. Infernape named Goku/Wukong) without going so obscure nobody has ever heard of it.

I'm an auto mechanic, so I name most of my competitive mons after car stuff. Theres a few exceptions though, like "Mallieao" for my Volcorona (hawaiian for "big sun"), and Com Truise for my Porygon2 (after the name of a DJ, not a spoonerism for Tom Cruise). Also, I can't start raising a Pokemon until I think of a clever fitting name for it.
