I didn't like the soundtrack of Gen IV altogether (played through Platinum again last week to confirm), but some tracks are *really* nice.

I believe it was, and even something as simple as playing a different, calming tune at night in Pokemon Centres made me appreciate the Sinnoh games all the more. It just made the game that much more atmospheric, and being the night owl that I am, I would hear that theme a lot.

I am jailbroken, though I'm not too sure how well a 4th gen iPod touch would handle a DS emulator.
But like I said, I have a flashcart for my DS which is a better option anyways.
Would that PPSSPP source happen to have a GBA emulator as well? Can it use cheat codes?

I don't agree on Routes 205, 209, or Veilstone though, which I found to be rather dull and grating in the long run.

Which is my gripe with the Gen IV soundtrack: the other games have a couple of great tracks, and inoffensive, decent ones in between. Gen IV has a handful of fantastic tracks, but these contrast with a lower average quality for the rest of the soundtrack.

Route 205 screams "adventure."
Route 209 is comfy as FUCK, especially on that rainy route. It's so good it got a remix in Brawl.
Veilstone is just pure jazz.

It's okay I guess, everyone is entitled to their own opinion even if those opinions are wrong.

Kanto music was good, problem is that most of it is under 20 seconds long. I don't see how that wouldn't become "dull and grating in the long run" like you mentioned.

It's more appropriate if the music gets interrupted by random encounters, trainer battles, or the surfing or biking music every other minute. Unless you purposely idle or spend some time in the menus, you won't be listening to more than a minute of most tracks anyway—in which case it's better to have a catchy tune that repeats every 30 seconds, rather than a longer and more complex piece with an unimpressive intro.

But that's wrong.
Gen 4 onward, after a battle ends the music goes back to where it was interrupted, and it doesn't restart from the beginning.

Basically, yes. The music is going to get interrupted every half a minute anyway, so it should try to be as catchy as possible in that time frame, instead of being a longer composition that's itnerrupted and gets taken apart all the time.
This doesn't apply to battles or towns, of course, only routes and caves.
