Ok, does Shield Dust only block secondary effects from moves the pokemon is hit by or does it also block effects of move the pokemon is using?

It blocks secondary effects, such as burns from Flamethrower, only for the user. If a Shield Dust mon were to use Flamethrower, it could still burn the target, but Flamethrower could never burn the Shield Dust mon

How much more speed does a max speed EV timid pokemon have over a Max speed Adamant pokemon?

Like if i Make a Timid Salamence (base 100) what pokemon can i expect to outspeed assuming Adamant after 252 evs?

Bug Bite is useful on Scizor because with Technician it's slightly more powerful than its unmodified most powerful STAB, X-Scissor. It also used to provide more utility in VGC since it would eat Sitrus, Lum, and type-resist berries. I don't know if that's relevant for singles, though.

Finally thinking of playing a third gen game (emerald). 3rd gen pkmn look kinda sucky, especially strange is the lack of good electric types. Anyone can recommend an OK team to get as you progress? Thinking of picking the chicklet for the starter. Have no fucking clue to what contests are - should I bother? Also can someone recommend some good games that are like pokemon on the GBA?

how many saves can you have in Pokemon Crystal? I sort of want to go back and play through it again, but I don't want to delete my original 10+ year old file.

Also, what's the best knowledge base for someone who hasn't had Pokemon in their life for over a decade? I don't have the game's manual anymore, and there's no real replacement for those schoolyard protips that went around back then.

It doesn't really matter that much, just use whatever you like. 3rd gen games were really easy, so don't worry about using a good or balanced team.

All pokemon games in the main series can only have 1 save file. If you dont wanna delete your old save, you could play it on emulators. But you should check if you cartridge still have the save, a lot of batteries have died after this long time and saves erased.

For the knowledge, i would say Serebii.net, bulbapedia and smogon. And you could always ask here, we are all dicks but somebody will answer.
This is 2014, google knows more than your school friends.

I'd make the case for Zoroark (double Darks)
Gigalith
Azumarill (If it has Huge Power)

If Glaceon is strong, go with that. Maybe use Magnezone for an Electric type.

Your best bet is to look up the rosters for the Elite Four if you're that desperate.

If you have multiple bonuses to attack power, ie Stab and an ability like technician or adaptability, is it a 50% bonus applied twice, or a 100% bonus applied once?
What about type bonus gems?
