My FireRed run. Got all the way up to Koga, though it was really rough. Went into Koga's fight with just a Tauros.

My blind Emerald run ended during the first gym, I was not prepared at all.

My HeartGold run was ended by emulation glitches.

Well I /was/ hoping for a physical attacker. I'm not even sure if I want to grab Magikarp and Sandile to train them now, or wait until after I get a catch from the cave up ahead. On top of that I don't even know who to use for my team at this point.

This is attempt no. 4 but the others ended more out of bad planning and decisions and not because I don't know the game. The only one that could have gone better had I know the layout of the game was the rival fight on Route 110. I thought it was a good place to grind and she whipped me pretty good.

Otherwise challenging and pretty well. Hopefully my good luck will last until the end.

Is there an english version of this template?

As nice as the >>18459124 templates are, I kind of prefer the more simple ones or ones where you can add a background image to, give them a bit more unique personality from player to player.

To each his own. You can add backgrounds to my templates though. The PNG version has no background at all, and the PSD version has a background layer which could easily be swapped out for an image of choice.

His Vulpix caught me off-guard, but it was his Kabuto using Rock Tomb that utterly demolished Frisket the Mudkip.

Just arrived at Parfum Palace. No deaths yet which is suprising but I think I've managed to build a pretty solid team for now.

Added my own rule. The typelocke, can only catch a pokemon in an area if its type isnt already present in my party. Which means I may have to kill the Snorlax on Route 7, unless Abird gets rekt.

Do you read Nuzlocke Comics, /vp/?

I've read a lot of them and I just finished Oh Gosh Platinum and it was awesome, but now I need something else to waste my time. Also, since Land-walker's Yellow was cancelled, it would be good if anyone can recommend me a decent comic with a serious plot.

You can also glorify/complain about some particular comic if you want, I like reading opinions.

I just lost two of my best members on my team. I'm literally a mixture of depressed and angry right now at myself over the matter. Two critical hits in a row after an intimidate. Just, I did so much wrong that fight even if I don't count that as critical hits, just, beyond frustrated at this point. I'm going to have to piece together my team again after that. I'm playing through a Pokemon Y Wonderlocke and I've got the shittiest luck ever (I'm near the second gym)

the team:

Porygon level 22
Mawile level 20
Deino level 17
Goomy level 16
Furfrou level 13
Sigilyph level 30

The boxed mons aren't that much better either, I've had a Honedge and Larvitar that were good but those died and I also had a Growlithe that fell victim to Absol's pursuit while training.

I'm currently doing a FireRed nuzlocke. I'm bad at templating so:

Caught a Sandshrew on Route 4 or whatever it is, and a Staryu in Cerulean City.

Rival's Smoochum is utter bullshit. Powder Snow 1HKOs everything I had so now my game is over. Half tempted to just resume my game and ignore that fight because I don't have to patience to do all that progress all over again over such an overpowered move.

i jinxed my previous Y run, so here we go again with HG

Here's my team for now. It's okay, hoped for a mareep or a ghastly, but overall i think i got pretty good coverage. No doubt that boxer is gonna sweep Falkner, and when the time comes, perhaps bugsy as well. It should be noted that i picked a random starter so don't judge. I also have to go see if i can catch an unown in ruins of alph, but i seriously doubt if it's worth the risk.

Anyways, for now i just have to clear sprout tower, and grind boxer and battington.

I'd just continue with the run. I wiped on Brock because the only Pokemon I had that had a chance of survival or doing damage was Barboach, which got rekt by Kabuto's Absorb leaving an Elekid as the only hope against an Onix.
Wish I'd not caught a Route 2 mon and got Treecko from that girl instead, but not much I can do about that now
I'm finding it a bit easier since I grinded a Lunatone from Mt. Moon to level 23 before heading through, so it's kept up with everything up to Vermillion so far (haven't been in Misty's gym yet)

Brought Besus the Pidgeotto out of box to fill team gap and provide Flying to team, then headed up to take Archer and Giovanni on, lost both Berzerk and Bullbag to Archer, Berzerk to Struggle when I forgot to heal and panicked when I saw his Scizor Sword Dance, and Bullbag when Rock Smash didn't quite KO his Sunny Day Houndoom and got KO'd by Fire Blast. RIP ;_;7.

Gioivanni went down to a combo of Bios sweeping half his team and Brick and Bomba taking the rest out.

Now picking the pieces up and rebuilding team, pretty sure I'm gonna end up with a Mono-Water team, ugh.

I'm just not familiar with mono-type challenges. If you don't encounter the right type in as the first Pokemon in area, do you have to skip the area? And not sure what happens if there are a number of areas where you don't encounter they type you're running.

Only if you include nuzlocke rules. Monotype rules are just simply using whatever type that you selected. You can shift it into becoming more like a nuzlocke, but generally you're allowed to revive your Pokemon, use healing items, etc. The baseline is that you're using the type you picked.

Ups and downs all over... First gym was a cinch (Gym Leaders are 'Servants' now,) but the trouble came on the way to Virbank.

A trainer had a Beartic, with Gimlet leading. Those things apparently have some bulk, and it survived the hit to kill Gimlet with a critical Icy Wind.

On the upside, I got the TMs for Spacial Rend and Nasty Plot! Sounds a little crazy quite frankly, I'm interested to see what can learn it. Not documented is also an Eviolite, which could be extremely powerful if I can get an under-evolved Pokemon at some point.

Alright, I think I've decided to do a Gen 3 Blind run. I just can't decide on two things:

I considered doing a randomized FireRed run once before, but I wasn't sure what settings to use. The first time I tried using it I was encountering Regigigas in Route 1 before I even could buy Pokeballs. Didn't want to play a totally fucked up game.

Emerald is a good choice over RS. Most of the differences are added content, if I recall.

As for a monotype without cheating, that could be a tricky thing to pull off. Your best bets would be Water or maybe Flying if you wanted a few Pokemon early in the game.

You should give it a go! There are a lot of options in that randomizer (like turning off wild legendaries) which can offset a bit of the bad luck.

Honestly I'm most amused by the random class names right now. Wandering through the early routes and seeing waves of "Entrepreneurs" in baseball caps and shorts... a more creative person could probably weave an interesting Nuzlocke story out of this parallel universe.

Normal is always what I recommend. It really introduces you to the versatility of the type. You can also do mono-type runs in romhacks as well since a good majority of them give you access to every Pokemon of that type to that generation.

Also Emerald is generally considered an upgrade in all ways to R/S. R/S would be a lot easier though if you want to take that into consideration.

Okay managed to sneak round Route 44 and get my catch from there, which was a Rash Beautifly named Bugly and promptly boxed, and Ice Cave blessed me with an Adamant Swinub, which I have boxed Pigeot for and have promptly grinded it to 40 and evolved to Mamoswine, gonna get team to 48 and head to Blackthorn.

Also switched Blasma from Wash Rotom to Fan Rotom for a way to counter any stray Electric moves deadly to my majority Water team.

Small Update.

Completed Parfum Palace and taught Wiz Cut. Petalia has evolved and I had to miss the Snorlaz on Route 7 due to the Typelocke, which sucks but there are plenty of new areas before the next gym where I can catch new members.

Randomise is a rom mod.
And as for which game, I'd say Diamond or Pearl because Platinum is harder and HeartGold and SoulSilver is both really long for a first Nuzlocke run.

Under the options in game you can change it from Shift to Set. Basically it doesn't give you the option to switch out your Pokemon when an opponent is switching his Pokemon.

Additional rules are all optional, you can customize the Nuzlocke to your liking by adding/removing or making new rules. It's all about self-imposed challenge.

The Universal Randomizer is a program in the OP pastebins that basically lets you randomize all sorts of stuff for any Pokemon game from the first 5 gens.

As for what to recommend, I can't really help. I'm still new to the whole Nuzlocke thing myself. The pastebin has some good descriptions of how difficult different games are.

1-to-1 mapping means it replaces all instances of a certain Pokemon with a different. Area and Global just determine how wide the effect is. Best explained with an example:

In Global 1-to-1 it'll replace all Ratatas in the game with, let's say, Pikachus. So anywhere you'd normally find a Ratata you'll now find a Pikachu - so Route 1, Route 2, and so on will have Pikachus now.

In Area 1-to-1 it'll replace all the Ratatas in Route 1 with, let's say again, Pikachu. BUT, in Route 2 where there are also Ratatas it will now replace them with someone other than Pikachu, like maybe a Vulpux. Then again, in another Route that would normally have a Ratata it'll be yet a different type.

Area 1-to-1 for more variety, GLobal 1-to-1 to keep the number of different Pokemon you encounter smaller.

You could always save before you play Amie with a pokemon, so at least you still have that bonding experience, then when you're satisfied with it restart the system at your save so it doesn't save the advantage. I did that on my first run.

Plus there just aren't a ton of fighting types. My party would pretty much be:

Hitmonlee
Hitmonchan
Mankey
Machop
Poliwrath

I'd probably have to cheat myself a team to start, since it'd take too long to get them naturally. For the sixth slot I'd probably have to cheat it in a gen 2/3 mon like Hitmontop or Meditite.

I mean, I understand that it's another layer of difficulty, but the way I see it all rules like No Items and Set Battles and whatnot do is encourage you to trivialize the challenge by overleveling. It's already entirely possible to lose just with the original "Catch what you find, if it faints it dies," rules. But when the margin for error is slightly larger because you can do things like use potions or have the protection of the player's Switch advantage, you don't have any good reason to "cheat."

And once you get to the point where you're making 15+ rules to ensure you can't do things like overlevel or overuse Pokemon Centers or whatever to deal with every possible method the player has to give himself the advantage, hobbling yourself to the point where you have virtually no chance of success in the long run... I don't even know what we're playing anymore. There's a line between "It's about the journey and you shouldn't be playing to win," and "I want an experience that's as masochistic as possible just to see how far I can get before I give up or I get fucked purely by dice rolls."

It is getting dangerously dangerous here. I was very lucky to receive Trevenant and the reborn Trinity now that the Psychic gym is coming up, but I need to manage to train them up without losing them. Especially Trevenant, which would strip me of another pokemon slot if lost.

Leafeon might be your best choice, but be aware that he doesn't get a physical grass move till level 71 or till you get a heart scale and get to the move relearner. Disregarding TMs of course.

flareon most likely not. I was considering just saving it, but Cranidos is gonna be useless as hell for the next good portion of the game ( fighting, water, steel gyms). Ended up going all the way down to the next city and grinding on the trainers along the way there. Got Pikachu and Oddish to 19 and went to Misty, and she still nearly wiped them out in 1-hit with her fucking 21 Starmie.

Am I only allowed to catch a Pokemon I find the first time I enter the route or any time? What if I couldn't get poke balls that early in the game, can I go back and catch a Pokemon?

Up to you in that regard. If you want to disable catching Pokemon till you get Pokeballs that's fine.

Now if you go into an area and don't have any Pokeballs on hand since you didn't buy any, then that counts as a loss though.

So far this run is going surprisingly well, this is my first gen6 nuzlocke so I was wondering if its always this easy?

Nothing has died yet and all the trainers seem quite underleveled and have only had a couple of close calls so far.

Clair went down pretty much no trouble, Bofu nearly got taken out by a stray Dragon Pulse from her Salamence, but swapped him out and Bigun took her team out after that.

Got the Extremespeed Dragonair as my encounter for Dragon's Den, turns out it's Quiet Shed Skin but I can deal with that.

Went to Ecruteak and beat down the Kimono Sisters with my Choice Specs Porygon2, debating whether to evolve it into a Porygon-Z for extra firepower but pretty sure bulk and survivability are kinda necessary.

Caught a Bold Haunter up in the Bell Tower, but no item to evolve so going to be boxed for a while and I'm hoping to get something to trade for a Covenant Ore soon. Also took my first steps into Kanto on Route 27 and now about to challenge the first trainer.

i fail to see that. Just because the AI is hindered in some way, to allow for easier combat, that doesn't mean that we should be handicapped as well. Remember that the trainers sole purpose in life is to deal as much damage to you, they don't care about winning. They'll use explode on their last pokémon if they could.

don't say that switching is "unfair" to the AI, who obviously aren't playing by the same rules as yourself.

Unless you meant that you feel that switching is cheating PERSONALLY, in which case that's your opinion.

Used snorlax on the fire gym, was a good idea to bring it since it had rollout, and heracross would be dangerous to use there, even without evs he balked like a champ and rolled back. Now the teamis back to its original form

Alright guys, mind helping make a decision? I want to decide what I want to do next after completing my Platinum nuzlocke.

Should I continue to Black 1 and just complete that as a normal game?
Should I do a romhack, particularly one of Dray's romhacks?
Should I do a monotype of one of the games?
The last decision isn't nuzlocke related, but I realized I've never played Colosseum or Gale of Darkness, so I might do a normal play-through of those games if you guys recommend it.

Just vote on it or convince me.

Just started my first nuzlocke with randomizer, and I've already lost my starter, a Sphinx. I now only have a pincer. Appearently the trainers have legendaries, this is going to be tough. I also found a shiny heatran, but I had to run due to low health on my Pincer. I think I'm going to continue tomorrow.

Made it through Route 26 and 27 with no losses, and hit Victory Road looking like i wouldn't have to stop to grind any new team members up, but I was wrong, Lost Bomba the Octillery, my longest lasting mon, to his Magmortar when Surf didn't quite manage to KO and got hit with a Thunderbolt. Then Blasma the Rotom went down to a crit Ice Beam from his Kingdra when I stayed in to confuse and paralyze him. RIP ;_;7

Have brought Based the Dragonair and Bailey the Houndour onto my team, gonna grind team up to around 56-58 and finalize their movesets then head in to take on the Elite 4.

in any case, I was considering starting storm silver nuzlocke. I started one a while ago, but stopped due to issues. I might do that now. I feel bad about doing this again but I just don't feel it anymore.
Plus I just got Yoshi's new island today so if I pick up my DS at all it'll be to play that, most likely.

So it goes, guess. May or may not do a template. I might even just put together screencaps of my team/PC honestly.

I had the same problem and had to abandon my run.

I've given up trying to emulate HG/SS. They're so problematic for me, and I don't know why. Every other DS game I emulate, including B/W 1 and 2, and D/P/Plat all run just fine. I honestly don't understand why it's so buggy.

I'm doing a semi-blind(never beat it, only got through 6 gyms many months ago) Nuzlocke run of Plat and it actually is really fun but only because of how horribly punishing it is.

I'm actually on my third attempt. Never beat the second gym.

First run: entire party wiped by first Galactic Admin, got my revenge with the two weak Pokes that were left in my box. Wiped in the second gym.
Second run: Put all my money on a lucky Budew find for the first gym. KOing rockmons with ease, took a Screech from Onix and then that little dinosaur OHKOd me with a Headbutt
nothing else had any moves that weren't resisted. Team wiped. Didn't even bother grinding my boxmon. Just restarted.

>Third run: things are going well. New levels of caution reached. Haven't fought the Admin yet but I'm right there and just grinding until I can get through without any losses(hopefully). Still having fun.

I highly recommend a species clause exception. It's pretty common for people to only skip the first mon of a route if it's been caught before, but I personally skip all repeat mons because I simply dislike Normal types and it keeps my party fresh.

Did you use Inkay/Malamar in an earlier playthrough? If not you should give the little bastard a shot. It does not add a whole lot of resistances to your team, but it also doesn't add a lot of weakness and becomes fantastic with contary superpowers.

My only other problem is the last members. Im thinking Hydreigon. Anyone have any other suggesting. I like hydreigon's design, but lvl 68 is pretty high up there.

An update on my Nuzlocke. I just beat Morty. Crobat did really well against him which isn't surprising seeing as he's the strongest Pokemon in my party right now. I should be able to beat Chuck with him and Flaaffy too provided they're still alive along the way.

Currently at Frost Cavern. I thought that Metang could handle a hiker's Rhydon, because it had +4 attack after Power-Up Punching his Relicanth to death. Turns out a +4 Bullet Punch from a neutral natured metang can't KO a rhydon, even if it got a crit.

If your dead set on doing a fighting monotype, are you sure you want to limit yourself to the dudes available in FRLG? Coverage is key and so many of the original 151 fighters had limited fighting/normal only movepools. I think Machamp, Poliwrath, and almost have the SpA to pull off any special TMs. If you succumb to the tempation of Hoenn you get Breloom and Blaziken. Or if your going to cheat a starter and aren't going with the Chicken, maybe start with a Tyrogue and let him evolve on his own.

I'm nearing the end of my fighting run of Y and here's what I've learned so far:
1) Golbat is always faster than you think. Wing Attack hurts more than you expect, air cutter will crit when you need to live.
2) Coverage and secondary effects are your friend. As awesome as Hitmonlee is, his movepool is ALL FIGHTING AND NORMAL ALL THE TIME! I think its true for Primape and Machoke as well, but they may get some TM support.
3) Meditite can't carry its weight between the levels 20ish and evolution and by the time it evolves you've built up so much resentment its hard to forgive the Medicham and you box it while feeling like maybe you didn't give it the time it deserved to develop into a fighter in its own right but you're running a gym here and and if it can't take a hit, break a jaw, or explode somebody's head with a chi ball whats the point and honestly you kind of wanted to use heracross anyway because your nostalgic for the little bugger and is that so wrong? please tell me I did the right thing

Anyway, just crushed Wolfric with a tagteam of Tendou(Heracross) and Rastadog(Lucario). Team is pretty even between level 53 and 56. I'm still really worried about Diantha's Gardevoir since my usual answer to psychic (Lowrider[Scrafty]) is 4x weak to her fairy attacks, but theres a lot of training to do before it matters. About to crash don't have energy to either learn gimp for fuck around with MSPaint.

Don't know if Layer Styles from Photoshop carry over into GIMP, but the layers with the badges on them have the "greyed out" layer style on them, so you just have to figure out how to activate/deactivate that layer style. As for replacing the badges, just paste the badge you want onto a new layer and put it where you want it, and then copy the layer style from the existing badge layers onto the new layer.

As I said, I'm not quite sure how GIMP does Layer Styles, but that's how you would do it in Phostoshop at least. I would strongly recommend taking a weekend or a week and watch a tutorial/basic introduction series or two about GIMP. It and Photoshop are very, very useful tools, and not just for this particular application. Check if lynda.com has a series for GIMP, they are usually of very high quality (and they are usually available... elsewhere, if you do not feel like paying the money). You will not regret it, I can promise you that.

My personal nuzlocke rules.

Poke dies when faint.
No healing in battle.
Can only use pokecenters if all pokes are full hp no status (to regen pp)
1 poke per route
Must nickname caught pokemon, if you forget to nick then you must release.
If new route pokemon is a duplicate of what you have you cant catch. Sol for that route.
No running from battles
Pokes in party must be within 2 lvls of highest lvl
If all pokes faint game over
No held items
No escape rope

if you're not running from ANY battles then you're going to be overleveled pretty quickly

Purrloin fell from a cute pup. I overestimated how much damage he could take and he got one hit KO. This is going to be a very reoccurring problem I feel like. Generation 5, aside from a few select Pokemon, is a generation I'm not as personal with. The most experience I have with it is from Dray's hacks and I rarely use Generation 5 Pokemon that I didn't like before. Rest of team is still okay at the moment.
Only two Pokemon cause I zoned out on Route 2 and didn't catch anything.

I'm in the process of a Psychic monotype challenge on my old Gold cartridge. The only issue is I feel like I'm breaking some rules with my Eevee who I want to level to an Espeon. It just takes so damn long in GSC to make a Pokemon happy, so I already have 7 badges and have done the Goldenrod Radio Tower Rocket event. I only have 5 Pokemon on my team right now.

Slowpoke: L33
Hypno: L33
Kadabra: L33
Eevee: L33

Espeon learns Psybeam at 36, so I'm really cutting it close on Eevee's evolution window.

I also caught a Girafarig yesterday but haven't been in the mood to level it up to the rest of my team. I probably should, because it would handle Ghosts/Psychic types with ghost moves a little better than most of my team.

Made some revamps to my team, heading out now to grind for Bug gym. Is my team looking solid member-wise or is there someone in the box more suited to fight Bugsy? First time getting this far in Storm Silver. Also, what level should I be at for Bugsy? is 20 good?

I guess either I am a masochist, or I can't be kept down. Going at it again. Started off a bit differently...and, perhaps as punishment for not choosing Chespin, Frogadier has been the first and so far only 'Mon to go at this point. Took too much of a risk trying to share experience off an Absol - let it be known that I hate Pursuit.

Still, no giving up. Seeing this through to the end, bitter or sweet. Or both.

Hippopotas has taken his place. Gotta say, lucked out massively on Route 5 with that Abra, and Rash is not the best defensive nature, but it boosts Kadabra's best stat considerably. Barring a catastrophe, I may well not need any of the array of Psychics in Reflection Cave.

Sure would be nice if Azurill evolved soon, mind you.
