If pokemon were reality, then I would certainly say friends and companions.
If were talking about the crappy version of reality, then I would say pets in a very loose sense of the word.
Calling them bits of data that I have become overly sentimental and attached to would be a better term

Data on screens that you can grow attached to. At the end of the day, yes, they are nothing more than just numbers and data.
