For the first time in my life I finally decided to play pokemon. Downloaded GBA emulator on my phone and Emerald version of Pokemon. Got really into the game, picked Torchic as my starter. Which pokemons should I catch as early as posible? Right now leveling my abra and magikarp because I know that they will be OP once they evolve

It doesn't matter anon, just catch whatever you like.
Emerald is fairly easy, so don't bother doing things just to make it easy. Just take your time and enjoy the game.

Grinding, farming money, all of that is a waste of time. If you like a pokemon, use it. That's it.

How do trade evolutions, like Kadabra, work? Are they turned off or is it impossible to evolve them?

Don't worry too much about Pokemon that you "need" to catch or not, the game is pretty easy. Catch what you want to use really. There's a feature where trainers can be called to have a rematch with that you'll get later, and also past the fifth gym you'll get a way to double the money you make from trainer fights from your mother.

Have fun, just go balls deep into it and enjoy yourself.

Catch what you want, Emerald is easy, even by Pokemon terms, and against NPCs, you barely need to try. If you want to learn the competitive side of the game more, a battle simulator like showdown is probably better.

what do you mean by trade? you just evolve your pokemon by lvling him up, right?

Some pokemon evolve differently.

Some by trading them.
Some by using specific items on them.
Some are even weirder, like levelling them up in specific places.

Some emulators (like "My Boy") have the option to open up a second game and trade with it all on the same device. I played the Gen 3 games like this, had a bunch of trade evos, and sent my Pokemon from FireRed to Emerald as soon as I could.

I actually ended up PalPark-ing them to a Platinum ROM after uploading them to my computer. Moved the ROM to a Flashcart and then traded to a retail copy. Long story short, my Gen 3 emulated Pokemon all made it to Kalos right as rain.

Use Ralts instead of abra you don't need to trade him to evolve. Oh and in Dewford city enter "TIGHT KIRLIA" when asked what's popular and you'll get a master ball

well, you may want to play "blind" it's kinda fun, but looking things up isnt really cheating

the game does tell you things but it's very hint-y nd cryptic and wont outright tell you "this pokemon evolves this way"

That's awesome man! One thing I will tell you is that there are tons of Pokemon thru out the game. So don't feel any rush to fill your party. Catch who you'd like and it'll be a great experience

Platinum us the hardest really.

But even that can be played through without much difficulty (and without using crutches like stuff you know is overpowered). Pokemon's difficulty comes from PvP play, not the singleplayer.

There is no "best" version, though Emerald is quite popular. Platinum is up there too.
I'm not so sure what the hardest version is either, but none of them are overly difficult. These are games designed for a younger demographic after all. Emerald is a good game to enter the franchise with, so just stick with it.

One thing you need to know about it is that it doesn't have the phys/ special split so normal, fighting, bug, flying, ground, steel, poison and ghost are based on your attack stat and the rest on your special stats
