You'll never see Lucario scratching bugs from its ear with its hind leg because they want you to forget it's a beast. Case in point, it bows or some shit after you pet it in Amie.
It was clearly marketed as a pokemon people should like, and it caught on. Zoroark was supposed to be the same but, perhaps because it was the second wave or because "tricky weaboo" wasn't as popular as "brooding aura-fag", it didn't end up getting shoved down our throats as much.
Lucario is the epitome of a "cool" design. Every time someone criticizes something like Hariyama's design for being "ugly", I remind them that not every monster is supposed to be Lucario. I think it's sad that it attracts so much autism from one group and consequently gets a bad rep from the rest because I actually like its design, although I'm glad not every pokemon is designed with the same thing in mind
