I loved gen 4, but I always thought the starters were really unbalanced.
You pick Chimchar, your rival picks Piplup while Dawn/Lucas gets Turtwig.
You can obviously rape Torterra with a Fire-type move.
But then you can rape Empoleon with a Fighting-type move.
Rival battles were way too easy.

The best part about Battle Revolution was being able to battle random strangers over wifi, but that was implemented into the games. It's also pointless now, seeing as wifi is shutting down in 2 months for the DS/Wii.
The 3D models were also nice, but it wasn't worth it for a $50 game.

The starters were easily among the best. Great designs, and they were all more than usable in battle.

Electivire, Magnezone, Rhyperior, Togekiss, Gliscor, Tangrowth, and the rest breathed new life into old, forgotten, or otherwise weak Pokemon.

The metagame was by FAR the best of the online metas. Gen 5 was total shit with the weather wars, and Gen 6 is turning out to be pretty bad just due to muh priority and Mega imbalance, as evidenced by all the ongoing banning.

Battle Revolution was tits for battling friends in 3D on a TV, and even if it wasn't a perfect game, it gave us access to some interesting random Wifi.

Not sure how you can complain about Cynthia, at least in Gen 4.

And the Sinnoh League in the anime was great until Trollbias, but even that was at least interesting. Pic related was GOAT.

Gen 1, 2 and 3 all have a more interesting and tactical metagame.

Also the thing I hated most about Gen 4 were the extremly overpowered Pokemon, both lore- and statwise. Pokemon were supposed to be something like more intelligent animals not fucking creator gods of time and space and they also didn't have to make 3 680 BS Pokemon + one 720 BS + several other strong legendaries + all those gen 1 evolutions with high stats.

gen VI ae the best, they hqve the warrior, ninja and magician theme. Gen III goes second for me, if only because the unique typings of blaziken and swampert at the time or that all of them have really cool looks

Gen V trid to do something similar to gen VI with a samurai, a chinese warlord and a gladiator or sumo wrestler, but it wasnt clear and didnt end up as good

Gen I they are all lizards and while they all follow the "just gets bigger" formula they have some badass charm

Gen II is good, but maybe the second stages are better than the final evos, but get points for the starters just being water grass and fire without subtyping

They introduced plenty of cool shit but they really missed the mark on available Johto mon and distribution of Trainer levels and Wild mon.

This is especially noticeable when you get to Kanto.

And to a lesser degree the fact that Silvers team didn't get fully evolved Irked me as well.

Platinum is fantastic and I can only hope XY2/Z resembles it as an improvement. Although not fighting Pluto sucked.

Infernape was design-wise a great reference, torterra and empoleon are still uniquely typed, the whole trio served to balance out the rock-paper-scissors match between them by the final evo and each had very tight theme for their respective lines.

Gen 5 was a clusterfuck of themes and looks. Gen six has a tight overall theme but delphox is shit, and greninja is clearly the favorite. Gen 2 are all very bland in appearance and performance. Gens 1 and 3 had pokemon that weren't blatantly shit design wise, but had no overall or individual themes.

Your taste is shit.
