I think Smogon is a very helpful website for competitive Pokémon trainers.
I don't, however, appreciate much of its userbase, who seem to think that the website has a monopoly on competitive battling. These people don't even seem to actually play the game much of the time, fully absorbed in Smogon's simulators. They sometimes (unlike Smogon itself) seek to, in a most autistic manner, impose the rules Smogon uses for its own metagame on others. They are smug, closed-minded, and quick to desire bans for Pokémon which would force them to change the way they battle, or, gods forbid, actually think up their own strategies.
Smogon is helpful while keeping to itself. Good on them for it. Much of its userbase, however, can fuck off and die in a fire.
