Your character holds their breath, if you live in a nation known for being extremely coastal and filled with water, it's not unlikely you have a habit of being able to hold your breath well from swimming so much.

The Pokémon generates a bubble or some shit like that, it lets you breath and not being affected by the pressure. It's Pokémon, so the pressure thing doesn't have to make sense.

You can dive in B2/W2, but, uh… You get Dive really late in the postgame, and then there's a single flooded underwater ruin you can explore, but you just dive straight down to it on a railroaded path.
