>>18564965>Rock Polishing and Head SmashingAnd dying to 4x effective Mach Punches, Close Combats, Focus Blasts, Earth Powers, and Earthquakes. And let's not forget that it also dies to Surfs and Hydro Pumps.
As for those hits that Mega Aggron can't take? Let's see how much better regular Aggron takes them.
252 Atk Choice Band Sheer Force Darmanitan Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Aggron: 240-283 (69.7 - 82.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Choice Band Darmanitan Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Aggron: 412-488 (119.7 - 141.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Choice Band Darmanitan Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Filter Mega Aggron: 124-147 (36 - 42.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
Mega Aggron takes hits better than regular Aggron, doesn't die to a non-STAB Earthquake, and tanks even super-effective hits from Darmanitan, the rape ape who can deal some of the highest damage in the game, better. Sure, it dies to competent special sweepers, but you know what? Regular Aggron fares even worse.
If regular Aggron wanted to even have a chance at taking these hits, it'd have to run Sturdy and sacrifice its primary niche of Rock Head+STAB Head Smash.
And it's a good thing Mega Aggron can run a devastating SleepTalk Curse set, fixing its lack of recovery and doing a great job at sweeping, all in one set. You could also run Wish support from a teammate, which is extremely easy to pull of thanks to Mega Aggron's high synergy with common Wishpassers like Sylveon and Florges.
I like Aggron, and it's one of my favorite Pokemon, but it's impossible to deny the fact that it is completely inferior to its Mega Evolution. Aggron got saved by Aggronite whether you like it or not.
