Does anyone else feel really attached to 4th gen?

Something about the games just compels me to keep coming back to it, even though I've completed everything I possibly can in them. I don't know if it's the cozy day/night music changes making the game really atmospheric, the region in general, the simplistic design and sprites/UI, or what. I can't quite put my finger on it

Gen 4 brought me back to pokemon.

Played Gen 1 and 2, but then lost interest in my teen years. Tried playing 3 but never got into it. Got hyped about 4 for some reason and it's been love ever since.

Easily the worst games with Diamond/Pearl (at least Platinum fixed everything bad), but goddamn it did have the best meta.

Look at the cover legendaries. One more time.

I will never replay Gen 4 unless it is Platinum, and I don't think anyone else would unless they have/use a hard copy of D/P. Cynthia is a qt and one of the toughest Champions.

Wifi was cool as fuck though. Gen 3 is my favorite gen, though I have to play Emerald.

Witness: A Gen 4 Evolution that wasn't an eyesore.

Diamond and Pearl were terrible. Luckily Platinum salvaged that game, and HG and SS were almost perfect (except for crappy level scaling).

I recently played through Platinum again to give Sinnoh another chance, and while my opinion of it did improve, I still can't say I like it. The music is excellent, Cynthia is the best champion, and it's nice to see that the gym leaders have a life outside of their gyms, but that's about it.
The region is really bland, the colours drab, many of the Pokémon additions either forgettable or hideous. Team Galactic and Cyrus are painfully generic, the legendaries and their integration into the universe are frnakly ridiculous.
I suppose the post-game in Platinum is nice, and the level curve is good too; nonetheless, I don't feel compelled to go back to it, nor would I miss it if it didn't exist.

Love the hell out of HG/SS though.

Exactly. Except maybe for the northerly snow routes, the whole region is generic and forgettable. You trudge through routes which could be in any other Pokémon game, cities with uninteresting gimmicks, and caves with Zubat and Geodude in them; and I never once looked back.

It's a system that fixed almost none of the problems of the system it plagiarized and is supported on the backs of people who refuse to accept change. The first-party material is laughably broken, either underpowered (gunslinger) or overpowered (witch), which combined with how little it actually fixed of the original system speaks of how shitty the people who made it are at game design. You'd get a richer experience playing the original 3.5 and disallowing all melee classes that aren't from the book of nine swords.

It's still fun, though.

I'll only object to the rival. I found Barry to be rather refreshing in his ever-impatient, energetic manner. At leats he actually had a personality, unlike Cheren or Serena/Calem, and wasn't another edgemaster like Silver.

no, I hated 4. I was always lost in the game, the new HMs were pretty bad and I didn't know anything about the new Pokemon.
The only "good" thing was HeartGold but I didn't like the remixes of Gold & Silver for 4th gen type of sounds, heck I prefer the trumpets from RSE than the OST in any sound from 4th gen games.

People don't understand that 'rebooting' is not the same of "rip-off".

Maybe it's just because I read comics, but Unova is just a series revamp. The game's pokedex had no foreign pokemon, Hilbert is the most Red-looking protag around, etc. Unova is supposed to be a parallel to Kanto, an east paralleling west kind of thing.

People are always spouting 'knock-off' at half the pokedex, but don't have half a brain to realize you can't fucking plagiarize your own work and that when half of the pokedex is a throw-back to a Gen 1 family that maybe it means something.
