Is this good? I want to play this game, only ever played Colosseum.

On another note, what does /vp/ think about the Pokemon GameCube games? Better or worse than the handheld series?

These games are both fun, and the music is fantastic. I've played through both twice now. Be prepared to spend about 6 hours straight if you take on Mt. Battle for the special move starters.

XD has hands down a better selection of Shadow Pokemon. That said, I prefer Colosseum by a small margin.

If you loved Colo like I did, you should give it a try. Speak of which, Colosseum released in America in this date ten years ago.

The one thing I really hated about Colloseum's soundtrack though was how this was the normal battle music (which I honestly don't even think is that good):

Wait, nobody actually thinks these games are as good as the main series, right? I mean, they do some fun things but they play mostly like one of those Pokemon clones that became popular after the craze was in full swing. Those that miss the point that people enjoy the games maybe for 50% at most for the "combat" and doing so with things you capture. If you don't have a fantastic world that actually feels fun to hang out in and explore though it's all for naught.

The GC games' world are just so half-baked and progress in the game is usually just a series of very menial fetch quest along with some rousing "talk to every NPC until you find the right one" gameplay

I agree. Friendly Battle was much better than the default, it's a wonder why it wasn't.
Still, I like the way the standard theme ends with a snippet of the Admin theme, and that the Admin theme ends with a bit of Evice's.

I think they kept Willie in XD just so they could have the Friendly Battle; most people associated it with him anyways.

I just wish that JRPGs would either learn from Mother 3 and realize that if the player is going to be in battles for a large majority of the game then you should probably be composing as large variety of battle themes as possible. Alternatively take the FFXIII route and have the composer work on the single battle theme for like a month straight to make something really special that players won't get sick of.
