When you put your 3DS in sleep mode and it won't come out of it.
End up having to reset by holding the power button.
Anything you acquired during sleep mode is lost.

this is how i did it
i bought a broken used XL for $80 on ebay (only top screen was broken) opened it up and swapped den american guts with the lizard on xl jap guts and boom fancy shell american guts inside.
its pretty pricy and if you don't know what you are doing you can ruin BOTH systems.
