>>18615272A temple set by the shores of a caldera lake, with a river flowing past it. Challengers would first have to defeat the assistant at the bridge crossing the river, who uses Water-types, and cross the bridge. The second assistant would stand at the gate, and would use Normal-types. As Gym Leader, I would fight in a purpose-built space near the back of the grounds, using Ghost-types: but only in the mornings.
Facilities would include a center to heal pokemon after the two fights to get in, a small hostel for temple pilgrims and trainers with a communal kitchen serving simple food, the temple grounds, halls, and shrines themselves, and indoor/outdoor hot springs. Egregiously disrespectful behavior by challengers who arrived the afternoon/evening before their match would lead to denial of the badge.
Pic related: the Gym is basically the Bodai-ji at Osorezan, and the assistants are there to recreate the Buddhist equivalent of crossing the Styx.
