Why is it that Pokemon inspired so many childhood thefts, /vp/?

How much of your prized Pokemon merchandise got stolen during your youth?

Cousin stole my Butterfree card, at least he got caught with it, but then... my entire deck of Pokemon cards got stolen, a kid actually broke into my house for it.

Other cousin stole my Snorlax stuffed animal. This one hurt the most at the time.

Oh, and I think some of the kids I baby sat the other year stole my copy of SoulSilver.

Pic related, recently bought myself a foot-tall Snorlax to make up for my lost childhood. No regrets.

I was tempted to steal my friend's copy of Pokemon yellow back in the day. I had never owned a copy of Pokemon yet, and it was killing me. I knew my friend would hate me though.

So I had to wait a few years until I got Pokemon Silver for my birthday, which my sister stole. But at least, my folks made it up to me, and got me Gold a week later.

Of course we also traded. Pokémon was the first lesson in Economics many childs had, and stealing is just another natural Economic activity in humans.

I have had pokemon cards stolen from me, and I have stolen pokemon cards back.
Around the time they started making fake pokemon cards, I would buy some and they came with alot of cards, and I would trade them for good cards.
I would have a hand full of fake charizard cards and ask for rare cards from the other kids.
I gave one kid a fake mew card, thinking it was the real deal, and he gave me all his "Pokemon the Fist Movie" cards, since I never had money to go see that movie myself.
Still have those cards today.

When i was 8 i always had my cards taken away by my teachers in school, but i always waited after school to sneak in the principal's office where all the teachers would leave stuff they confiscate from other kids and take back mine and take everyone elses cards for myself lol

Back when Pokemon was big a bunch of my friends thought it would be cool to train mantis' scorpions and spiders to fight eachother like real Pokemon. We would fight them after school at this empty lot. I had a scorpion that had killed 3 mantis and a spider already, but one of my friends stole him. Found out a few days later it stung him. Oh well

That... is amazing. The worse I ever did was help a kid trap bees in little containers. We'd then shake the tank around until they all stung each other. We let only the survivor free.

My Gameboy Color got jacked along with my copy of Silver, at school during a fucking fire drill (we were told to leave our bags and shit in the room)

and then some years later my pouch of GBA cartridges got stolen while we were on a plane which had not just my Fire Red and Sapphire, but Tactics Ogre and 3 other cartridges as well.

At the very least GBA and Emerald was out of its pouch at the time, being in the seat pocket in front of me since I was playing before nodding off.

I never stole from other kids but I did shoplift a lot of my collection. Mostly cards and stuffed dolls but I did get Crystal Version from a thrift store. It was odd because it was still relatively new at the time.

Looking back, I feel pretty bad about stealing but I can't bring myself to get rid of the stuff either. It just sits there, reminding me of how shitty of a kid I was.

Then when I went to her house and found it with all my scribbles blacked out with sharpies, she claimed her cousin gave it to her months ago. I stole it back along with her Gameboy SP and her Ruby version.
