Different gym leader types, like giving Brock Steel, Misty Ice, etc. Change of Pokemon in Routes. Change of trainer pokemon and levels to make things more difficult.

You get the point. It'd probably be easier to hack FR/LG honestly.

I've never hacked in my life, gen 1 looked easier and i thought hacking looked fun so i was gonna start from the basics.

Make every trainer have six pokemon. Increase levels on Gym Fights and give Gym Leaders, the E4, Giovanni, and your Rival actually decent movesets. Make Prof Oak able to be battled.

well, the box system needs an overhaul to be certain, but that would be impossible for a simple hack.

Not asking for the graphical system we got in 3rd gen onwards, but something as simple as a quick sort and the ability for pokemon you catch to automatically go into the next box would be nice.

I think the critical hit rate being based on speed is interesting. It just needs to be decreased so that no Pokemon is getting criticals more than a third of the time.

Gold and Silver are probably the easiest to hack with the right tools, though there are more tools available for Fire Red/Leaf Green.

Bigger towns and more places/houses to visit.
I am trying to do this myself but it seems that to create warps from scratch you have to use a hex editor since all the tools I used so far doesn't have this option.
