Ohkay, Anons. We're going to try to set you up with some soulmates- because who knows how many of you need some TLC / reassurance that there are some neat people out there in the world. You have four easy questions, and it's easier for you if you give detailed responses- BUT it's not like I can do anything about that. So. >Your signature Pokemon? >The human Pokemon character (from any game, anime, whatever) you most identify with? >Your favorite Pokemon (that isn't your signature, and why)? >Your favorite human character (that isn't the one you picked earlier- preferably someone with a personality you find attractive.) >If any of these answers match someone else's at all, (for instance, your favorite character is theirs, their favorite Pokemon is your signature, the character you can identify with is their favorite) talk to each other. Do it. You don't have to love each other, but maybe you'll come up with something interesting, and we'll talk about Pokes in the process.

To be fair, Pangoro is a difficult pokémon to work out with on competitive, if that's the kind of battle you mean. The moves he can get with Iron Fist aren't really that much, and the stats are another factor too.

>>18685523 I like the surprising amount of complexity that's in the game's battle system, which is weird because I'm not really into the competitive scene at all. But even just managing something as small as making sure you have something to use against every type of Pokemon during the main game adds a certain level of fun and strategy, even if that stuff is kind of at the beginner level of play. From a game design standpoint the series is just really solid and I have a lot of respect for it because of that, for me analyzing games and trying to figure out why they're fun and what makes them work is as fun as, and often more fun than, playing the game itself.
I also just like the Pokemon themselves a whole lot, there are plenty I don't care for but overall I think many of them are lots of fun to just look at - though that's probably more due to the fanart of them than the game itself. A lot of them really do have their own personality, and the sheer number of them gives the games a ridiculous amount of replayability. Usually the ones I like most are the ones that don't actually have any significance in the main story of the game, I'll take Tentacruel or Graveler over Pikachu or Lucario any day.
Nostalgia is also a huge factor and I'm kind of a genwun fag, pretty much all of my favorite Pokes are from the earliest games. I acknowledge the series has had some huge improvements over the years though, and I really like plenty of the new Pokemon.
What about you?
Anonymous
>>18685663 Hey, a lot' the same. As a game I love it for the simplicity and at the same time complexity if you want to go all the way. I'm not much into competitive myself, but I love random battles and keeping up with it even though I don't actually play much.
Also, I really fucking love the setting. Animals, but they're superpowered beings you can enslave to make you the very best ever. There's something really interesting about the world, idyllic and and the same time with darker implications. I really loved the tone of RBY for one, a golden age of technological advancement (Mewtwo, all the tech like electronic storage) with your goal to just seek power and befriend your animals. Personally, I'm disappointed with how XY shoved in MUH FRIUNDSHUP, I wanted to explore the world and be shown the message with my experiences, not have some fat fuck dance around to try and make me like him.
Pokemon themselves are adorable. It's a pity not all of them are viable - weak pokemon and strong pokemon exist. There's no pokemon I dislike (save for butterfree ripoffs), I love imagining all of them existing, how they live, interaction with humans, ecological niche and biology (my dream is to study biology, so yeah). And yeah, I ahte pokemon repeatedly shoved in our faces. Love pseudolegends though, they're powerful, have awesome designs, and managing to get one and train it up implies a lot of things about you in-universe. Shauna with a Goodra was surprising but I gained respect for her.
Anonymous
>>18685663 >>18685842 Nostalgia not so much for me, I like pokemon now as much as ever, though I did say I loved RBY for the simplicity of the story and how you experience the world by traveling rather than HEY PLAYER CHARACTER WE'RE FREEENS HUH HUH HUH. I'm more a gen 1-3 fag, if such a thing exists, when I got Pokemon Gen 2 was already out, so gen 3 was the first gen I found out before it got released and got hyped for. didn't disappoint me, I loved Hoenn as a region, despite what everyone says. Water routes were interesting. Again, love exploring the world, places like the underwater trenches in Hoenn, the snow routes and Mt Coronet in Sinnoh, Mamoswine road in Kalos, goddamn I wish Pokemon were real so I could explore with my squad of allies and later settle down to study the most interesting creatures ever
And that's it for me. What do you think?
Anonymous
>>18685842 >>18685865 Yeah, I forgot to mention the setting. Gen 3 might be my favorite in that regard, a lot of the towns were really cool.
What you said about training super powered animals and the experience of traveling also reminded me of one of my favorite things about Pokemon. The player character isn't going on a journey to save the world or fulfill some obligation, although those events do come up during the adventure, the initial reason for setting out is ultimately to travel the world, discover animals, and compete to become the champ. And the player character is ultimately doing all of those things just because he wants to do them, for their own sake. I think that that carries a sense of enjoyment and passion a lot of other games, and adventure stories in general, tend to miss out on. You aren't going out on an adventure because you have to, but because you want to.
The only Pokemon I hate that I can think of off the top of my head are the Magikarp clone from gen 3 (I think Magikarp is hilarious and absolutely love it, but making a clone of it is just stupid) and Castform, which never felt fun to use in battle when I actually tried it, and it's one of the few 'mons whose character design I actually really dislike.
Anyway, this has been fun, but I should get to bed soon. It was fun talking to you anon.
'Til we meet again.
