If teaching pokemon to talk is so easy that Team Rocket could do it. Why haven't weseen more people teach their pokemon?

Hell how hard could it be?

Meowth is self taught and he learned how to do so at the cost of almost all his abilities as a Pokemon. Also pretty much Evert Pokemon that meets him considers him a freak.

I believe it was stated at some point that Meowth's battle ability was actually hindered by his having taught himself to talk and act more human like. Think of it like talking and stuff taking up a couple of it's move slots.

Meowth caught himself. Also, a good amount of "human-like" psychic Pokemon can "talk" through telepathy, right?

I guess its too much effort for normal Pokemon though. I do wonder how Meowth got his accent despite living nowhere near New York though. Unless the area he used to live in was like it? I can't remember much form that episode.

Also now that I think about it. How does TR fund all those schemes if Meowth isn't making them money? That would make a lot more sense

Meowth had a motivation to do so. To impress Meowsie, or however they called her in japanese.

Slowking can learn human language, and other pokemon speak it by telepathy and such, but it seems to be more of a matter of having a true "Motivation" to learn it.

They kinda addressed that in one chapter of the old series in a way; meowth demonstrated that he still has a lot of battle potential. It's the fact that he doesn't battle by himself what's really hindering him.
