I'm trying to not be a beta and to start competitive battling but I was wondering /vp/, should I be a tryhard and use only "good" pokemon? I want to use a switcheroo Delphox but a lot of people from smogon are saying it's going to be in RU and it sucks. So should I just not give a shit and use my favorites? Or will I get crushed?

Use a "good" team until you actually understand the metagame and such. Then after you've gotten better you'll be able to understand how to use your favorites to the best of their abilities.

Use good Pokemon you like, pick some of your favorites and support them with teammates that cover their weaknesses. If you look in the usage for tournaments like SPL you'll see things like Chesnaught because using OU: the team only gets you so far. Plus using a Pokemon you may not have considered before may give you a new bro.

Still, if you're going to use something like Delphox, it needs to work really well with the rest of your team. Because really, the reason things are OU is not simply power but rather how easily you can toss them onto a team and they'll work.

Not gonna lie though, Delphox is pretty bad

I'm probably just going to go with volcarona then. But I would think that a lot of people are using smogon builds so wouldn't their movesets become predictable? Whereas if someone uses a niche pokemon the opponent wouldn't quite know what to do.
