OK, we all know that Pokemon is a turn-based collect-a-thon JRPG, but the series has dabbled in other genres before. Mystery Dungeon is a roguelike with roughly Dungeons & Dragons-like gameplay, Ranger was a scratch-the-fuck-out-of-your-DS-touchscreen simulator, Rumble was a Gauntlet-style beat-'em-up, and Conquest was a turn-based strategy game, etc, etc, etc. But what's next? What else could they (or you) do?
I'd go with an RTS, with a Pokemon-centered Mystery Dungeon-like setting. No humans, just armies of fantasy monsters (not necessarily sorted by type) duking it out on a grand scale.
TL;DR: If you could remake the Pokemon series in a different genre, how would you go about it? The only common idea is that it has to have numerous Pokemon-like fantasy creatures; not necessarily the ones we have now, but in a similar artistic style (i.e., not Dungeons and Dragons or Shin Megami Tensei), with roughly similar mechanics and in a similar number (hundreds of characters, not 20-30).
