What's with Gamefreak and forcing this shitty edgyzard x down our throats? This shit looks like it was drawn by an autist man from Deviantart who is 12 years old. One anime, one anime especially for it, one special episode, one manga, I wonder what else?

I hope they will at least save Charizard Y for Ash, he looks decent, like how megaevolution should looks like.

People kept saying how charizard should be a dragon, they've been at it for more than 10 years, some even as far as asking GF to "improve" the game by allowing 3 typings just so the flying salamander could be a dragon.
Once again, charizardfags (not people that like charizard yet are aware of its shortcomings. No, the people that whined on Tamashii's video and that said that it wasn't affected by stealth rock) ruin it for everybody.
GF finally listened.

Thinking about it, it's because Charizard has "the look" they're looking for. The one that can appeal to as many people as possible.

His design can be both cool to kids (dwagon) and amusing/comical (very expressive). It's also humanoid-ish so the crowd can relate to its adventures (compare it to something like a Tauros). It has wings and can move fast so you can show flying and speed scenes, claws so you can show melee, it looks tough so it can believably take a beating and can breathe fire (think energy attacks).

Its X mega form takes all that and adds on it by being the most drastic change out of all mega users so its the one used for advertising the megas. I mean black dragon with blue flames? Y can't compete with that. The preview even has X covered in those blue flames like an aura.

The only other pokemon that I think can replace it would be Lucario+mega with its aura gimmick. Mewtwo can as well but it has this stigma of being THE legendary pokemon so having it partner up with a kid is a little weird. For some reason, I can't imagine Blaziken doing as well as Lucario though which is weird because I like Blaziken more than Lucario.

Somewhat related: Didn't Zekrom have its fair share of popularity too? It was also black and blue in color and is also part Dragon, and I also hear that most people chose Pokemon White because of it. And plus, there was that whole Pokemon Reburst thing.

In Zard X's case, I hate to say it, but it's the genwun magic.

Which panders to Generation I fans (as does the rest of this Generation, really) especially.

While I like Charizard and its M-Evos, its time in the spotlight (which I think also even started back up in the BW anime series when Ash's Charizard made a return for some reason) is a bit much. But since we're still early into this Generation, unfortunately, its popularity means it's going to be sticking around for a while. I will also hope that if Ash's Charizard has to make a return, it would at least be Zard Y. On a slightly related note, they have yet to feature Mewtwo X. Maybe the original Mewtwo could return and they could show it off then.

Minimal level in R/G/B/Y/G/S/C was 0, maximum level was 255. Theoretically you could encounter Charizard at lvl 108 by doing MissingNo. Trick, it just depended on your name.

I actually think the blue/black combo is pretty neat, but I'd rather have a different pokèmon with that design. Y works better as a mega imho.

Also, those thin arms and shoulder spikes are terrible and ridiculous.
