In this thread, we explain what words make up a Pokémon's name.

For example, this is Minccino.
Minccino's name is Mint + Capuccino
Likewise, its evolution, Cinccino, is Cinnamon + Capuccino.
Clearly coffee rodents, that's why they're so fast.

There's also Corsola.
Corsola's name is the word Colour and Sun in some languages, Cor + Sol with an "a" added at the end.
This is reflected on Corsola's duality of colors, and also on the way its spikes resemble the shining rays of the sun.

"-thorn" refers to the Norse god Thor, because that's how Ferrothorn learns Thunder Wave

ferrum is Latin for iron
ferus is Latin for wild.

Ferroseed/thorn are both part steel and have two "r"s in their name, similar to the word their names are derived from. But your etymology does work contextually.
