This is why I can't play any pre-Gen4 games anymore. Not only were a lot of my favorites useless before the Phys/Special split, but I can't even remember what's tied to what stat half the time because none of it makes any goddamn sense.

Would it be possible to do so in Gen 2 though? I know Gen 1 it would be impossible since special and special defense are the same stat, but, it should totally be possible in gen 2 right?

it's quite easy to remember, actually: special is all eeveelution types + dragon [obviously sans fairy], and every other type is physical.

If Fairy was introduced before the split, I have a good feeling it'd be special.

Partly because all damaging Fairy attacks but one are special.

yeah, but it could have been switched in gen 2 without anyone really noticing.

Ghost had like, 2 moves - Night Shade which ran off your total level and lick - which most players got rid of first chance they got.

there is really no reason why dark should have been special - they were all turned into physical moves after the split and made a new move: dark pulse for special.

the mix up point still stands

Just play HG/SS, they're better in every way (barring the Game Corner censor in non-JP games)

Even before Gen 4 I didn't even know that the Special/Physical moves worked like that.
Young me just assumed Shadow Ball was Special and that the elemental punches were special as well.
