As a general rule, you're right. Blue and orange don't match.

In the sense that Charizard's orange is pretty much established, the blue flames are a nice change. I think it works in that context.

Not everything that's dark is edgy though, Honchkrow is an example. The problem is that they threw it on and got rid of all the lighter colors (even shiny Charizard has a white belly) which makes it look like an alienware computer.

The point is not everything has to be light colors and polkadots. This whole "dats edgy crusify it" fad is downright retarded. Megazard Y looks just the way you want it to, so let Megazard X look different. Variety keeps things fresh, people. Sharp, black, scary looking pokemon can co-exist with chubby yellow blushing bunnies. That level of variety is what makes pokemon so available to everyone.
