In every case the creator realized that you actually have to know how to program stuff yourself and don't just make pretty sprites and pray that Jesus does the hard part for you

Unfortunately one of the only things XY have going for them is the graphics. Compared to Previous generations:

If you turn off EXP Share and don't use Amie the game is of average-hard difficulty. I actually liked the bloated dex, and didn't have the same Graveller or Basculin issues you did. It didn't feel bloated, just that there was a much wider variety of pokemon to acquire. I also liked the fact that less pokemon were introduced, because I like or love almost all of the new designs.

Nigger, in R/B you could beat the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th gym in any order you wanted.
R/B is the least linear region of all.

In case you didn't notice, it originally did not have any Rock attacks, but indeed, nothing Charmander can do at that point is not resisted by Rock. (Charmeleon too I think)
