Why is it so much easier to find shinies in the wild than it is to hatch them?

I'm several thousand eggs in, and I've only hatched 2 shinies. Both had shit IVs.

On my short ass playthrough of X I caught a shiny Smeargle in front of the daycare, a Solosis in Reflection Cave, and right after I beat the game I found a shiny Dedenne and Kirlia in the Friend Safari.
