You need to be more gentle with your hardware if you bent a copper pin. It doesn't need to be jammed into the dongle, it will gently click if you slide it in slower, and if it is jammed, it will do less damage.
As far as the speed goes, the speed of your internet could be a factor as to why it's so slow. You have to access their servers in order to use their codes.
If your internet is good maybe you need to close other programs. I make sure powersaves is the only thing running when I use it because I'm afraid of it corrupting my save if there is an error since my living pokedex has many pokemon transfered from my gba and ds games.
Another factor may be because your game has a lot of data on it. My X has my living pokedex on it so it takes a little longer than my Y version since it only has a few boxes full of pokemon.
