>>18751703for this reason, GF should be more careful in assigning stats to their mons. Physical/Special splits existed for that reason. There are several builds as well such as sweepers, walls, stallers, etc. Mons could also have dual typing. We also have tons of moves and abilities. This should be enough to at least make a lot of mons usable and viable.
If GF keeps on making new mons that are basically rehashes of older ones but with better stats and movepools and abilities, of course, one will always be eclipsed.
Take the birds for example. Talonflame had good deviation from other regional birds, and because of its niche (despite its piss-poor 80 base attack), it is used by a lot of people.
Although Machamp still has a niche role in No Guard, it could be argued that it suffered from Conkeldurr's almost superior physical stat typing. One way to make them equally usable is if Machamp's special defense was significantly higher than how it is right now. But like I said, at least Machamp still has its niche.
The three fire/fighting starters on the other hand, not only suffered from same typings, they were also all mixed attackers. Infernape was supposed to be the fastest, but Blaziken got Speed Boost. They should have made one a speedy dedicated attacker (i.e., physical), a mixed attacker (or a special sweeper), and the last one a bulky dedicated attacker (i.e., physical). At least they would perform different roles. Additionally, Emboar should have had dropped the special attack and instead have the stat redistributed to HP or defensive stats. Two of Emboar's good attacking moves (Flare Blitz and Rock Head) already chips away at his health, so any extra help on his bulk would be greatly appreciated, which also differentiates him from the two.
GF already made BST retcons this gen, they should just make an overhaul next gen. Sometimes, it's not fixing the outclassed mon, but fixing the one that outclasses everything. GF should stop playing favorites.
