Want the training to be expanded.

As in maybe for the first five levels after you catch your pokemon it won't always listen to your commands as you haven't built up a relationship with it yet.

how about a gym where your pokemon can fight ragdolls and dodge hinders
You would be controlling your poke doing this, and additionally to giving a specific EV it gives a small amount of exp too

Or, in a place like that, you could train your pokemon to be more resistant to some type, with limits of course
For example, you could train your charizard to endure rocks, when he reaches the limit he'd have a 3x weakness to them rather than a 4x weakness

speed stat doesn't affect movespeed but rather cooldown for moves in general
dodging moves should be hard but not impossible
trainers and gym leaders could have much better AI and spacing than wild pokemon, unique arenas with hazards maybe

stat moves have 75% cooldown, signature moves (hyperbeam, fly, etc) could have 150+%

most physical contact moves should involve some kind of dash forward (tackle etc) or wide attack
special moves are projectiles usually with varying aoe range

item usage, switching pokemon have long cooldowns that work independent of speed

move mastery should also be a thing
use a move X amount of times, gain a special bonus (status proc % increase, increased accuracy, increased power, etc)
take damage from element X amount of times, resistance increases
imagine training a pokemon to withstand its elemental weaknesses (charizard under a waterfall lol)

for the most part they use pokemon that have been altered to become better weapons (one of the admins will have a shedinja which has been modded to dark/ghost), but they also have a few completely new creations
While running through their lab you can see pokemon being used, like an electrode with nearly all stats in SpAtt being used to power some big machine. At this point you also befriend one of the new creations which you can add to your team
after defeating the badies, the mutants escape, the mutants you won't see again, but the new creations will now be encounterable in the wild, though not part of pokedex until you bring one to the local professor
