I actually think the opposite. With a few tweaks (mostly revolving around dropping the levitating bits and give it a more wolflike face) the bottom one could work. The top is too unbalanced, the built in weapon thing doesn't work. It reminds me of a hood ornament.

This guy probably really is designing some new pokemon though since they've let people who have worked on TCG art make new pokemon before, like the guy who created the Inkay, Honedge, Tyrunt, and Amaura lines.

Zygarde kind of comes close to what you're talking about. It's got some resemblances to snakes and flatworms but it feels like its own seperate thing instead of a pokemon version of a real animal.

Digimon is actually titanically successful, they just withdrew it from the west for a while around the time the monster collecting craze died down, whereas Pokemon battled through it with RSE, which is why they're still regarded as the worst ones to this day.

For YEARS we complained about "too many legendaries". One trio, two mascots and an uber powerful guy/small fairy was fine. Then gen 4 gave us a cover duo which turned into a quartet featuring God and Satan, the most boring trio to date™, a flaming lump of shit, Dorkrai and Hurrselia. Gen 5 was even WORSE.

Sure, there are like 6 legendaries this gen. But for GOD'S sake don't complain, lest we return to having fucking pixies that give birth to other useless pixies and fucking quintets of gay overpowered ponies.

Heatran is a Gen 1-2 tier of legendary.

Tokiya Sakba is a prominent Japanese fan-artist who does a lot of Pokemon stuff - I have a nice amount of his art saved, he's pretty famous on Pixiv. He's also decidedly only a fan artist, with no connection whatsoever to Gamefreak. These legendary designs were an April Fool's joke he uploaded a few days back.

The majority of the fandom and /vp/ dislikes the large amount of legendaries. They're supposed to be rare and take up a very small percentage of the region's dex. If there's 20 of them introduced in one region, they're not rare.

Less of them also makes it more likely that they'll be interesting. In my opinion, the sea fairies, pixies, musketeers and genies didn't need to be legendary. Hell, there didn't need to be three genies.
