I was 13 when Red came out and it was the perfect age. That shit was magic. It controlled the lives of me and my friends for well over a year until the hype died down. I'm the only one who still plays, now almost 30....

I played on a brick until a little bit after Gold/Silver came out. I got Gold first, then a teal GBC about a week after, with one of those worm lights.

My dad gave me his Game Boy Brick when I was around three. I was fascinated with it and pressed buttons on each of the games (Metroid, Tetris, and MIDI Maze) until I figured out what they did.

Later that year the Pokémon anime started airing, and I became obsessed. My mom bought me a used versions of Red and Blue, and I started playing.

My dad started me over on Blue, but on Red I kept the previous owners file (multiple Lv. 90s, which I trained up). Played them forever.

Never got into pokemon as a child because I hated the anime and my cousin was obsessed with it. I wish I'd have given the games a chance, I'm a big fan now. Sometimes I feel like a weirdo because i started playing the gba games a month before black and white were released.

I didn't hear about Pokemon for a while, and when I did, I wasn't interested enough in it, because nobody I knew could play it. None of my friends growing up had a Gameboy. We were all poor as shit. The only thing I had was my cousin's N64 that she gave to me when she left to go to college. I didn't jump on the hype train until my dad got a better job, and we were actually able to afford nice things. Got Crystal version, Yellow version, and a Gameboy Color for my birthday, and never looked back.

I kind of did. I was 5/6at the time. Nobody I knew at school played pokemon (the hype wave hit in gen 3, thats when everyone played) but my neighbours down the back were into it. I often went and played stadium with him and another neighbour. They were a few years older than me.
