Gen IV Red could probably take Cynthia, mainly due to Lapras countering the shit out of her Garchomp. Same with Crasher Wake's Battleground team.

You DO know that gym leaders have more than just a few pokemon right? They use pokemon in their gyms based on the amount of badges a person has, and then they have their own personal team,and a gym leader that has their own personal team on hand could probably go toe to toe with Cynthia and then lose because no one beats a serious Cynthia..

There's a reason why they're Gym Leaders in the first place. Outside of a few exceptions that have been stated in-verse like Volkner, most of them aren't strong enough to even be Elite Four.

Just kidding. We know in Hoenn Wallace became champion (though I don't remember it being mentioned whether he actually beat Steven or Steven just retired) as did Iris in BW2. And the electric guy in Sinnoh was gonna try as was Clair in Johto. Gym leaders could beat the champ.

I think those are notable exceptions since they're actually stated that they can do it. No reason to think other Gym Leaders are as strong as they are.

Of course, but still. Then again, you could still make the argument about gym leaders not using their "real" teams in badge matches, and point to their PWT teams or the ones from Platinum's rematch house.

Yes, as do the gym leaders by region, iirc. I just mean, if the leaders went up against the champions team they use in the actual champion battle, with their best team, they could win.
