But Venusaur was the best of the three starters in gen 1, both from an in-game perspective and a competitive one. The rest of them, though, I'll give you. Being a grass-type fan is suffering.

Quagsire is a lot better because it's bulkier and has a somewhat better movepool. Though I do think Feraligatr's the best designed water starter.

Competitively though, Chesnaught is way better than Delphox and Venusaur is better than Blastoise.

I've never understood why people think this. In most gens, the most superfluous starter is the Water-type. Not because they're bad, but because there's usually so many of them that at least a couple of them will outclass your starter. Only exception to this is BW.

Torterra is fine once it gets EQ. It's just not as good in-game as Infernape and Empoleon, since it needs the Rock Slide TM or breeding for Superpower to be really great. Also, Wood Hammer recoil sucks.

But Torterra will always be my top bro.
