In options, disable special pokemon.
That way, instead of Arceus, Shaymin, etc, you can see Zapdos, Landorus and Entei.

You know you can filter out legendary Pokemon on the GTS, right? Although it doesn't filter out legendarily like the Bird trio or Regis

This. Pretty much any bankmon will get you anything. Starters are pretty useful for this.

Starters are fairly common on GTS and males are worthless. But breeding bankmons is the right general idea.

I also found that you can get a lot of legendaries for any stone evo (besides Water/Fire/Leaf Stone), if you have spares from super training.

I find GTS to be very useful if you put pokemon up and request. You idiots should know by now that searching for them is useless. Just put up some starter or some pokemon that's kind of hard to get and can't get in X/Y and put up your request.
