>>18788433And Gamefreak's banlist is box legendaries and event pokemon. That's it. Which does not make a lot of sense to an experienced player, when all event pokemon are not particularly powerful but things like Blaziken, Mega MILF and Mega Gengar are known to be completely broken in singles.
Gamefreak does not give the slightest damn about singles, so an unofficial fansite went and made a banlist that, in their opinion, makes the game more balanced and fun in 6v6.
>>18788501I said a lot of them, not all of them. Plus everything in that list is weak to ghost with the exception of Sableye and Volbeat, and dark with the exception of Mr. Mime and the former two. That's pretty good defensive synergy, right? Cause that's the sort of stuff you need to run if you want a team that's entirely trickchoice. It's just not viable.
>Well, I guess that's where the 1/4 leftover from the 3/4 comes in.Smogon singles use six pokemon. Which is sort of another reason why Item Clause makes a bit more sense in official formats. Like, uninspired HO teams, they're only possible in 6v6 singles right?
>Deo-D @ Red Card>Aegislash @ Air Balloon>Bisharp @ Life Orb or Dread Plate>Pinsir @ Pinsirite>Garchomp @ Choice Scarf>Latios @ Choice Specs or Life OrbWell that was easy. Now, a full stall team:
>Venusaur @ Venusaurite>Chansey @ Eviolite>Skarmory @ Leftovers>Quagsire @ ...fuck. Rocky Helm?>Clefable @ Sitrus?>Zapdos @ Charti Berry? The fact is that lefties are so good for a defensive pokemon in singles, and nothing else is anywhere near as good. In VGC, berries are good because games are so short, but when a stall team can play a game out for many, many turns, the healing from lefties really adds up. And it turns a lot of 2HKOs in 3HKOs for pretty much any defensive pokemon.
Item Clause does not hinder offensive teams because there's so many good options. It puts an arbitrary handicap on defensive ones because nothing is at all as good as lefties.
