My opinion is that the second Mega was unplanned, but then someone proposed it and everybody liked it more than the other one, and it was too late to fix it. So they just added both of them because all the kids love Charizard.

I was always under the impression that the edgy kids bought Y (because fuck that fairy faggot mascot). And Char Y seems to be used far more often in battles across the board, to the point that seeing Char X outside of singles usually comes as a surprise.

Also, Char X looks like total shit compared to the majestic Char Y.
